I am running a wireless network here at my place and i'm having a problem with my laptop disconnecting and not being able to reconnect itself.

I'm new to wirless networking so please bare with me. what happens is I am trying to run a secure connection here so i'm using a "shared key" WEP is enabled with 128bit encryption. so this is set on the dlink wireless router.

on the card, when I login to windows xp, it does not remember the settings for whatever reason, i basically need to reconfigure the connection every time I relogin or come out of standby. also, if my connection drops for whatever reason, i need to reconfigure the damn connection over again, so what I end up doing is reconfiguring the connection with re-entering my key over and over again. I don't think i'm doing something right because i was thinking that it should reconnect itself automatically even it is a secure system.

any ideas on what i'm doing wrong, should i be using wpa-psk or something else on the laptop client side?

the hardware im using:

all dlink
the card: dwl-g630
the router: di-524

Hrm. I've actually come here because I have a client with the same problem. DLink Tech support actually suggested (and this makes sense) that withing the router settings, that you turn off the double-speed thingie for making the 802.11g go at 108 Mbps. This is simply because unless you have an AirPlus Card in your machine, it's actually going to be more than your card can handle. So just set it to NORMAL 802.11g speeds (56 Mbps).

But like I said, that HELPED the problem I had for my client, but it still keeps hiccuping. You know, disconnect/reconnect every minute or two.

So, I'll see what I can find.

thats cool, i kinda fixed it, i changed from a shared system to an open system with wep enabled and my key created, they said that "shared systems are problematic" I still have to reconnect when i come out of hybernation or standby which i don't know if its right or not. Still kind of annoying.
