I started up my system using the no-motherboard trick, and noticed that my PSU fans make a relatively high pitched buzzing noise...is this from my actual PSU or from the fans, and is there a way to get rid of it?

Its not from the PSU, it is from the fans. There really is no way to get rid of it, you could just get some new fans, for like 5 buX each.

It's kinda annoying when I'm shooting for a system that just makes the same dull, tolerable noise all the time.

Pull out the thermistor - and connect the two ends of the wire where the thermistor was.
