View Full Version : Video card freeze up
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what overclocking the Gpu does and overclocking the memory clock does? I have no idea what it does. I had my card at 315/620 (PNY ti 4400) and it kept freezing up. It is stable at 300/600. Would that me the memory freezing it up??? or just to hot?? Thanks for the help.
The GPU is almost like the brain of your video card. If you overclock it, it can perform its calculations quicker, hence games will run with a better framerate and generally look better, as you can achieve higher framerates on higher quality settings.
The memory is like the storage area for the GPU. The faster the RAM is running, the faster data can be transferred into and out of the RAM. Hence, faster RAM also aids performance in games and the like :)
Sometimes when you overclock, the card just cant handle it. This can result in freezing up or artifacts.
So which is better to overclock I had no artifacts just freeze ups If I cranked up the gpu more would I get better performance or should I just leave good enough alone?? Sorry for such stupid questions but kinda new to the vid card overclocking thing. :attn: :attn:

I'm not really into video card overclocking, but I would say that you would want to increase both.

when the card freeze's up it's because your gpu is oc'ed to high.
fix 1. back down your oc.
fix 2. get better cooling then try that speed again.
if your mem is clocked to high you will start seeing artifact's.
extra cooling usually don't help much, but each card is diff.
hope that answer's your Q :)
ya thanks for the info I realized that after playing around a little bit. but does overclocking memory make a big difference??
