Hi, I'm just picking things up as I go along at the mo and I'm going into over-detail here cos I want to be really sure about things before I start mucking about and frying my CPU.

Anyway... I've got a T-Bird 800/Mhz and a Chaintech 7AJA mobo. When I o/c by going into the 'Freq/Voltage Control' menu and gradually upping the frequency from 100 to whatever... what happens when you finally go too high. Will I fry my chips? Will the computer just not boot? Will I be able to get it running up to a point where I can access the CMOS/BIOS (what it's called I don't know :) ) and reset the freq to a lower level? Or will I have to open up my comp and fiddle about with jumpers?

What risks are possed to the rest of my components on the motherboard and at what freq is this likely to start becoming a danger?

Thanks very much:)

If you put it to high it won't boot and you'll have to reset the cmos via a jumper on the mobo. although you can avoid this by each time you raise the fsb try giong into windows and testing for stabilty. oc untill you get the max stable speed.

Welcome to the forums. Paul is right, if you get the FSB to high, you will either have stability problems or it will not boot into windows. Either of which can be corrected by going back into the bio's and lowering it. You may need to clear the cmos by a jumper or by shorting two solder points on the board. Or when you restart from a failed attempt it may go into the bio's on its own and reset itself to its defaults. I have an A7V133 that if it gets set to high it will fail to boot and when I restart it resets the bios to default. Good luck and again Welcome to the forums. Any questions just ask.
