mine was a pain in the ass to get off too. maybe try rubbing alchol?? I think that lossen ups epoxy, although I don't know how you could use it. oh yeah when i removed my hs from my geforce2mx I used alot of force, I'm surprised I didn't break somthin.

AHA! victory is mine ehhe!, prying didnt help much so i grabbed my needle nose plyers and slowly pulled up on each side then all of a sudden the hsf flew about 5 feet strait up lol.one last question tho..what should i clean the gpu off with to get all that thermal coumpound off with? rubbing alcohal??oh and one last thing do you think the heat sinks on the ram look beefy enough for overclocking or do u think i should get some after market ones?

Those ram sinks are the same ram sinks on my visiontek gf2 ultra and they are quite "beefy". I can run 525mhz mem clock with artifacts. As for cleaning off the gpu, rubing alcohol and some q tips is best. Some people say acetone nail polish remover but i would stick with rubbing alcohol, it doesnt leave any residue and drys much faster then the aceton, plus i think it works better :D

Next time, you should put it in a plastic bag and freeze it for a while (at least 30 minutes). It usually makes the removal much, much easier. Hope that you didn't damage anything.

The ramsinks are probably good, but they barely contact the memory chips. Take those off as well and apply some ASII with superglue in the corners. It will probably help you to get better results. Use the freezer trick, too. I would also recommend against using the pliers again (I'm just paranoid that way) Try twisting it very firmly first. If it still doesn't work, bring out your pliers or a flat-head screwdriver. Put down a pad or so to protect your card, and gently use the tool as a lever to remove it

whatever you do be very careful, i ruined a 16 meg Elsa Erazor, by trying to pry the hsf off with a screwdriver, it was epoxied on there so tough that the chip came off the board with it, someone said in a thread a while back that you should try and put the hsf in a vise attached to a table and trying to rotate it, i dunno if this will work, so don't quote me on this

Rubbing alcohol WILL leave residue. It contains glycerin to help prevent drying the skin. The glycerin will remain after the alcohol evaporates. 91% isopropyl alcohol will evaporate without leaving anything behind. (It's usually on the shelf at the drug stroe, but you might have to ask the druggist for it. ) Acetate (nail polish remover) is also a good solvent that doesn't leave anything behind.

Actually nail-polish remover leaves behind resedue too, it contains oils to keep your nail from drying out. Use real acetone from your local hardwarestore.
