UPDATED Feb 26th 2005
I managed toget a hold of a 3.2 pressy out of a dell laptop and am going toput a 2.6c ihave back in the laptop.

I had a TT spark 7+ cpu cooler on my 3.0C chip that i got to boot to windows @ 4030mhz, but the temp was high and my ramw as sucking up 3.2volts.

I put the pressy in the system with the spark 7 and temp hit 69C full load with F@H - i then decide to put my SLK-948U back in with a 92mm fan - this Cooler does not cover the full CPU since the CPU is ona 45 degree angle - but temps are cooler!

i have the pressy @ 3.6 with stock voltage and the temps are @ 63C stable - i know this is still warm - but it is also a rarely hot day here today.

I got some water cooling parts on the way :) so hope i can take this baby tpo 4ghz stable.

Also on the way is 1g kit of OCZ pc4000 Rev 2 (2.5-3-3-7) which should help as well!

If i did not mention i got my x800PRO back from RMA but they gave me an x800 Xt since it took me 3 months!!!

check last page soon for newer pics and soon some benching images etc etc

About 2 months ago i sold my main gaming rig (9700PRO / 2.4 @ 2.8 / 1g pc3200 / 160gDH) for $1000US and 2 other system for a total of $2100 US and was going to go and build a dual Opteron rig at the time, but then deiced, nah, I don’t need it, so heck i am going to build a new gaming system! since i could not play my games on my 8500 card :(

So I did - I headed out to EBay @ first to find some good prices, I got my CPU from there, but it took forever to arrive and that was it - the rest - good old newegg.com!!! (They take my Costa Rican credit card and delivered to Miami address I had!)
(And a good kinder soul here on Ocforums ;))

So, to get right to it, here are the specs of this new system that is being built

Abit AI7 mobo
Intel P4 2.6C UPDATE Now have a 3.0C that will post @ 4ghz
VisionTec Xstasy x800PRO UPDATE RMAD' - waiting for return (going on 2 months now!!!)
512 pc3200 - will be upgraded once I find the MAX O/C on this cpu to @ least 1g and better ram
160g WD 8mb - being replaced with a 74g Raptor once it arrives UPDATE Raptor arrived and installed
CoolerMaster STACKER!!!!
Dual 400w Fortron PSU's with Blue LED's
Thermaletake SLK-948U
Thermaletake A2017 Fan for SLK 90mm
Rounded copper shielded IDE cables / floppy
FrozenCPU foam padding for noise dampening(sp?)
Logitech MX510
fuNc mouse pad

So I finally got everything here today, the video card I bought from bobmanfoo here on Ocforums - this card does 540 / 580 stable and am told can hit 600 core with the volt mod - but I have not tested that yet but I know I will be! Unfortunately the pipe mod did not work when i tried, but am going to try again

As for the 2.6c i got it new for $150 off eBay at the time - it seems this chips don’t overclock that great - all i am hoping for is a
measly 3.2ghz and i will be happy!

I just ordered the raptor last night so it wont be her till next week.

So i will be updating this thread with pictures of everything as i progress and will post all my benches here as well

So any word of wisdom before i go nuts?
Any benchmarks I should run once i get a fresh format? I am going to try the Direct X 9c and 4.8 beta's to see how they go together and will be using Windows XP - I was going to use one of our companies Server 2003 - but it turns out I get 1000 less 3dmarks with it over XP!! or @ least on my Asus P4P800 I do, maybe wont
be the case on this board but will find out eventually

So, off i go and wish me luck!

good luck! :)

hey y do u need 2 psu? use that extra psu money and get a better cpu, RAM, anything! i think u could have managed your money better, but aslong as your happy then it dosnt really matter. i hope u get what u want out of this pc!

Mr.Guvernment
07-29-04, 08:27 PM
^^^ because i can :)..lol the PSU both of them only came to $130 - i plan to buy new ram anyways - i am just using an old stick of pc3200 i had lying around until i can find out how well the CPU overclocks.

i bought the CPU about 2 months ago off Ebay and had thought i would of had the other parts sooner - but the money for the rig i sold did not come in as fast as i wanted so i was more or less stuck with the 2.6C chip :(

i Might be able to sell it to my work m8 and get a better one iin a worse case scenario :D

thnx for the luck.

Nice!

Ahh this day is coming very very soon for me as well. I'll probably purchase the parts on wednesday. Should I post a thread when I receive them? I'm not going for any lights or good looks as I'll be sleeping in the room. Just quietness from the water cooling and professional look. Oh yeah... almost forgot... and a KICKASS system.

Mr.Guvernment
07-29-04, 10:56 PM
^^^ lol we can alsways use pics - i just ilke to take pics so people can see what product looks like in real life, not a pic of it in some studio :)

have fun with your shopping spree :D any idea what your getting?

Mr.Guvernment
07-29-04, 11:14 PM
mobo is installed with cpu / ram and slk948u - it seems that the 90mm fan i got for this is not really amde to fit as they dont mention 90mmonly 80 /72 and 92 - but i just bent the wires a bit and it fits fine!

looks killer soo far , the Blue Led's on the PSU's look sweet. thats one heck of a case there. i had to take the dremil to mine to do anything. cant wait to see it finished

Mr.Guvernment
07-29-04, 11:41 PM
hehe - dremel - one reason i wanted a nice case so i would not have to hack it bits :) and i would say this case does it all :) got to reboot to take the vid carfd out of this systema nd a cdrom drive so i shall be back.

dead_man311
07-29-04, 11:49 PM
Lol , i think i took like 5 lb's off my case with my dremal. i need a new case one thats set up for a dual power suppy.

Mr.Guvernment
07-30-04, 12:03 AM
mm, suggestion - coolermaster stacker..lol - it even comes with wheels to attach to roll it around.

cant say i have ever liked a case so much as i do this one!

i tried the dremel thing but wasnt too good at it :(

nissmo300
07-30-04, 12:45 AM
you should dremel the side where that big ugly circle is and make a nice window for that. Then it will be awesome.

Mr.Guvernment
07-30-04, 01:37 AM
^^^ i was considering that - i would not even need to dremwl anything since that mesh screws on and off :) it is a conbsideration, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Well good news is - i got it all together and formating with XP now - in the bios i got it to boot @ 250FSb so that was like 3.25 or something - tried for 260 and would not boot, so hopefully windows can handle the 3.25 :D

HOLLY CRAP!! i just formated and installed windows xp in like 20 mins!!!!!

Some more pics of this purdy piece of art in the making :) in next post

eVGA 6800GT (unless I get on one of those crazy deals for and XT or an Ultra)

160GB 7k Seagate
Audigy 2 ZS
...and a RAZER VIPER!!!1 w00t w00t!
Heh... these are just the main components... I'll make a thread in the general section when the time comes... I have a lot more stuff I'll buy... I'm just too lazy to write it out right now

One T fitting for T-line

Ohh... wow... shiny...

:D

It looks awesome! I think you should add an LED right where that blower fan thingy should be. It'll make it even better!

Also, sleeve those PSU's with red UV reactive sleeving. I know it'll be a pain in the ass, but it'll really be worth it. Especially if put that LED I suggested right where you hid the wires.

And now my quest - to hide and tidy up all of these wires! this is certainly the WROST part about having dual PSU's!!!!!

that is a thought - i did have in my head that this will be my super computer - that i would actually go all out and make it look kick ass.

i know everyone ahs blue lights, but i like blue dammit!! - maybe even do some uv paint on the grey USB / firewire wires and such or sleev them - i guess there is no eaqsy way top sleev except taking the ends right off the plugs?

how would it look with the plastic sleeves ones? the tubes that ui can just split in half and wrap around it?

And that looks like one kick ass system - i think that system deserves a stacker..lol - i hear they come in black now :D

Red UV sleeving would look awesome. It really, really stands out on blue lights, and looks cool. Especially if you have a lot of blue lights.

If you get a sleeving kit, you have to also get a molex remover so that you can actually sleeve them. Ohh... just got an even better idea! Get some good red UV reactive sleeving, orange works nice as wel. Then, get bright green (or some other bright color that would stand out well) molexe connectors. That would make it uber cool. Just provide enough blue LED's and you're set.

If you're talking about the plastic wrapping I'm thinking of... I think it would make it look ugly. Unless you can get UV plastic wrapping or paint it with UV paint. Sleeving would look much nicer and much more professional.

For my new rig, if I have the money, I'll probably get the PSU presleeved so that I don't have to worry about it. I'm really not going for looks, but it would make it look really professional and increase the air flow a little. I'd rather spend some extra $ on someone doing it for me and doing a damn good job at it, than doing it myself.

^^^ will have to see how motivated i get to take all the wiring out and redo it..lol

did some benching so far with 3d 03' - not overly impressed highest i got was 11300 with the 2.6 @ 3.13 and the x800 @ 540 / 580 - that was with cats 4.7 as the 4.8's did not work with the atitool

i am going to reformat later today and try it again - i want to break 12,000!!! i need to find out mroe about this PAT stuff :) as the inter application accelerator they say is only if your using the SERIALATA raid stuf f:(

Mr.Guvernment

it certainly is! since this stupid SLK948U - sory stupid Abit decided to turn the CPU on an angel in the socket - the slk948u does not cover the corners of the cpu!!!!!!

so looking into water cooling now but need to check as to what blocks will cover this cpu since it is angeled :(

Mr.Guvernment

Is weird now - i think the x800PRO memory is dying..lol

now i am getting artifacts @ 531 / 576 :( - i hope it is just the cat's 4.8's beta!

as for some scores

Mr.Guvernment
09-21-04, 11:43 PM
Hey all thanks for bringing back up this thread was going to the other day :d :D

unfortunatly i have not got the water cooling yet ahd some issues buying it online and my CC company charging me but dangerden not getting the money - is taking foreevr to get it sorted out!

So i still want to get WC, but now my g/f will be down from Sep 27th - Dec 15th so not sure when i will have time but i want to do it before years end :D

Shoeby - once i get my x800PRO back and reqire the case i will get some pics :D

Mr.Guvernment
11-18-04, 03:20 PM

wholly crap. that is one nice system. no matter how against intel and ati i am, i still love what you're doing with this. looks sweet with the lights from those power supplies and that HSF setup.

also, i'm likin that case. the front looks badass to the max. transparent so the lights shine through. it's one thing to have a nice system, and it's one thing to have a nice looking system. but to have one that looks nice and performs nice is always a plus.

soon i will be upgrading processor, memory, motherboard, PSU, and chopping my case up for some extra fans. but since i'm 17 and have no job, it might be awhile. i'm hoping i can get it looking as nice as this one.

Mr.Guvernment
11-19-04, 09:18 AM
^^^ thanks for the kind words, things like that tend to motivate me more to get things done :)

once the end of the month bills come in since i just moved into my own house see what my budget is for new toys for this baby is :D

just orderd a p4 3.0C to replace the 2.6c (will go into 2nd system) and if i ever get my video card back! will be all set - then i can get the WC - and really go to work on it :D

Very sweet.

Iam seriously looking at the stacker, and would appreciate it if you would look at my thread i made about a new case on the first page mate, as i wanna ask you some questions about it, or i could just ask them here?

Are your temps a lot better with the case? I really want to improve my temps, thats why iam looking at it?

Do you have the 300mm cross flow fan thing? If you do any good?

I want to have more than 1 120mm fan for intake at the front, would i need to buy more of the drive bay thingies????

I might go watercooling in a year or to, so id want this case for that as well, i suppose it's good for that? with the space?

I might want to cut a whole in the side panel fr a CPU blowhole, would it be easy to do? ie is it aluminium? or steel?

I will be using 1 PSU, would it be better to have the PSU at the bottom of the case, and use 2x80mm's for airflow at the top??

Thanks for your time, this case looks sweet.

-edit2- temps are extremly nice too, with 8 hdd's (200gb WD's in raid 5 with about 1cm clearence between drives there currently at 29c)

case 25c
psu 27c
cpu 29c

big cases rule!

nb (though there is a watercooling rig in that picture - and its too large to fit in the case - its wasn't used to get these temps!, needs cleaning out >_>)

bored.. so double post :P

Are your temps a lot better with the case? I really want to improve my temps, thats why iam looking at it?

YES.. the open space inside helps convection out a lot. and the case is designed nicely.

Do you have the 300mm cross flow fan thing? If you do any good?

i don't.. and i probably won't get it, though there is still venting for it on the case. i don't see much point cooling parts of the computer that don't need cooling such as caps etc. better off getting another 120mm fan for the front, or modding the side vent to take a 120mm

I want to have more than 1 120mm fan for intake at the front, would i need to buy more of the drive bay thingies????

yes. unless you modded it or held it in another way.

I might go watercooling in a year or to, so id want this case for that as well, i suppose it's good for that? with the space?

its a great case for watercooling, lots and lots of space inside if you don't use the second psu, but it doesn't gain much on the water cooling side unless you want all the bits inside the case (which sucks a bit for efficency - as the rad SHOULD be above the cpu as covection works in watercooling too)

I might want to cut a whole in the side panel fr a CPU blowhole, would it be easy to do? ie is it aluminium? or steel?

no need to cut a blow hole for the cpu as its a mesh and already has a fan socket (comes empty)

I will be using 1 PSU, would it be better to have the PSU at the bottom of the case, and use 2x80mm's for airflow at the top??

yes. but your mobo's lead and hdd leads might not be long enough

Thanks for your time, this case looks sweet.

try it in blue :P

and my temps were got with a stock barton2500 on a stock heatsink.. its a server.. but with 30c temps stock its gonna be oc'd soon

^^ thansk for responded

hehe creepy how us stacker people love to show off our cases :)

it is an awsome case - when i bought it it had just come out - they did not even have the plexi sides out yet or the mobo cooler - i would of loved to get a plexi side panel but oh well - once the money starts coming in wil get ym W/C set up going :D - i need to make a CM stacker only forum :D

Enyo
01-20-05, 10:46 PM
definatly!.. ive also got a lian-li .. which may be a nice pretty case.. but the cm stacker is just... HUGE .. and efficent.. and spacey.. and its got chunky bits of aluminum and a full metal front!

gotta be the best case ive seen yet! apart from possibly that £800 zalman .."thing" ..passive case..

i wish i could get a plexy side..but hiding the cables for two psu's and 8 hdd's + front io + fan controler + pump and tubing etc is impossible to tidy ^_^

only slight problem is dust! the front grills get full of it :(

It is a sony WEGA.... mmm, me have to go look and let you know - it is a 2 year old model - i dont like the black on it - using Diret TV if something is all black, it is pixely and seems to be 2 or 3 shades of black - could just be the receivers they use here for the satelite

Hey all,

Well tomorrow my radiator arrives and that gives me a complete water cooling kit - So i want to take my 3.2pressy to 4ghz + stable - i have booted into windows @ 4ghz but temp was getting high so i took it down)

I have an Abit AI7 mobo which i have read alot of people say can not handle the O/C of a pressy. It ran fine for 2 weeks @ 3.6 and no issues.

Anyways, some questions

* WHat is the best way to attacah heat sinks / ram sinks to the caps and resistors and other items?
* What would be the best cooling to get for these items? Just buy ram sinks or ?

Currently benching my system as it is now with an SLK-948 and 90mm fan on my abit AI7 - this is with a pressy 3.2 currently @ 3.6 on stock voltage.

Mr.Guvernment
03-19-05, 10:36 PM
benchmarking away - didnt get my Rad today but getting it on monday, so now pushing the pressy as far as i can prime stable so far @ 3.71 with 1.43 volts into the core with Air.

Very Nice looking system.

Mr.Guvernment
03-23-05, 08:53 PM
thanks appreciarted

i got it all instaleld but i tihnk i need a better 120mm fan on my rad - i reall cant feel any air coming through the rad and @ 3.5ghz on stock speed and running prime for 3 hours my temps are 52C

Now, that does beat my SLK-948 + 90mm 6000RPM fan that could only hold the cpu @ 66C under full load middle of the day!

so maybe my abit just over reads the temps

On idle i had it @ 39C at around 11pm tonight - been warm around here - around 25C to like 30C - under load late last night it was stable around 48-49C which is what most reviews show this block doing on a prescott.

so going to order a new 120mm fan with some more through put and hope that is all it is as the block is seated nice and firm

Will try to get picks up - i got them all taken, just work has been busy.

Mr.Guvernment

Are you trying to blow the air through the rad? It can work better it you have the air being sucked through. It seems easier(more air gets through) for fans to do it that way for some reason.

Mr.Guvernment
03-25-05, 03:35 PM

okay everyone - i got my pics upload - now i am going to be lazy and not comment on every one - i will post them in order i took them and you can try to decide the story to go along with it.

If not, the n basically i got all my parts - took apart my beast - cleaned it - admired my parts - started to assemle - had tested the CPU block for a day, and the pump, tested out the rad for a while once i found out my CPU block would not fit in my ABit AI7 :D

Nice

I noticed that you have converted your case to BTX, is it worth doing because i have the same case and since getting it my temps seem to have went up a few c's, would converting it drops CPU temps much?

Mr.Guvernment
03-25-05, 05:03 PM
well the idea of BTX is to have better air flow - since the CPU is lower in the case it is open to cooler temps compred to the top of the case since heat rises.

i have not noticed a major change since i went from Air+ATX to water+BTX so i dont really have a comparision unless i put my SLK-948 and air back in, but i dont what to go through all that work :D

also i it just looks lot nicer.

If anything your temps would remain the same or go down. but they certainly should not go up.

:D

so when u going water cooling :D

Maybe i might convert it to BTX when im bored one day :p

Water cooling has always been a dream of mine :D i was gonna maybe get a kit for x-mas this year, but IMO, i dont think i have enough experience with computers yet :p

oh yeh, what about Graphics card temps? BTX would mean higher temps. and also the cables on the mobo (IDE connections etc.) would be on the opposite side, which would make things untidy :(

maxxoverclocker
03-25-05, 06:29 PM
jw but where can u buy the connectors (thats what they are right?) that allow power supplies to run without a mobo, i know ur just shorting connections but is there a connector that you can just plug in for this?

Mr.Guvernment
03-25-05, 08:56 PM
^^ The stacker comes with the adapter :D

thanks enduro - i hope it looks decent once i get the lights in it. :D

i know what i have done is not really anything that hasnt been done yet, but i still think it looks great. :D

crana c - the cables as u can see dont make any difference what aide they are on - mind are neat and they looked the same on the other side as well.

as for water cooling - it can be intimidating, but u ave plenty of info here and once u get the parts it is not as bad a sit looks - i think by x-mas u will know enough to get that WC kit :D and if u need help, that is what we are here for.

definetly need to slleve your PSU(s), thats the only thing left to do on this system. (well, unless you wanna go crazy and WC the GPU, NB, RAM, HD, etc)

Mr.Guvernment
04-04-05, 12:41 AM
hhe - well added some light, looks REAL nice now that i got my side cover on :d will get some pics up tomorrow.

as for cooling he rest, my ATI silencer fan is making more noise then before - so may consder water for it :D

as for temps - i had to take out my mobo and i left on the block - when i putn the mobo all back in, my max temps now have hit 44C = so seems maybe my WB wasnt seated well before :D

Hi Mr.Guvernment very, very nice! Can I ask you a couple questions about your PSU setup? For your PSU's: Dual (2x) Forton 400w PSU's Could you possibly post the model of your PSUs? Thanks to the suggestion of another member here, I've decided to go with dual PSUs as well and I was looking at the connector that came with the stacker and it seems to have only 20-pins on all connectors. My mobo (MSI k8n neo4 platinum) is a 24-pin model and, it seems, all new PSUs are 24-pin ones as well. Since you obviously got it all working I'm thinking I'm going to buy the same PSUs you did. Not to mention, damn that looks good! :D Did you run into any problems using the dual PSU setup with the Stacker? Lastly, how loud are those bad boys? Thanks and thanks for posting this journal!

Mr.Guvernment
04-13-05, 01:05 PM
thanks for the kind words :D

will check the model once i get home :)

and i had no problems at all - the only issue is if you unplug or use the power switch to turn off one PSU - the other one turns or stays on, dont know if this is a good or bad thing.

I think the route of DUAL psu's is an excellent one - simply youo provide better power to certain components and you know you are not likely to strain a single PSU - and if one blows - u "might" be able to use your other to power your system - of course pending on the wattage and rails of your PSU's.

i know if i wanted to i could go dual PCIe vid cards - and know i got more then enough power for it :D

04-14-05, 03:45 AM
Thanks Mr.Guvernment! I'd appreciate that as a good 20-pin PSU is hard to find and, again, those look awsome! I assume you used a 20 to 24 pin adapter for the mobo connector?

More power, heck yea! :D

shard
04-14-05, 11:40 AM
He has an Abit AI7, wich is just a standard 20pin mobo, thus i realy dont think that he needed to do so.

Mr.Guvernment
04-14-05, 11:54 AM
^^^ :D yuppers - regualr 20 pin, didnt have to use any special adapters, just plugged it all in and off i went :D

silkshadow
04-15-05, 01:04 AM
Ah, I see. My mobo is a 24-pin one. I am really leery of using a pin converter if I don't have to and when it looked like you got the adaptor to go directly into the mobo I though there was some cool trick you got working :D. Maybe I'll go back to considering the Enermax 600w PSU. I really liked the idea of getting dual PSUs working. Can't believe Coolermaster hasn't come out with a 24-pin adaptor yet :(. Thanks!

Man, this is probably one of most nicest looking rigs I have seen in a LOOOONG time.

VERY...no... EXTREMELY well done. How do you like that TT block? Does anyone know how well those perform over a DD TDX?

Mr.Guvernment
04-17-05, 01:33 PM
:d tanks alot swat - :D

the TT block does well , well, better now that i had taken out my mobo and reseated it - the temps i get are about right on with reviews of it - in my area on a hot day i am itting around 52C now under full load dual folding @home - and when it gets hot here it is about 30C with no wind.

from all the reviews i saw - the TT was with in 1-3C diff or the same as a TDX and other blocks - i am only using 2 connections on it - but will be using 3 as soon as my other barbs arrive - this may help temps alot.

well the idea of BTX is to have better air flow - since the CPU is lower in the case it is open to cooler temps compred to the top of the case since heat rises.

Heat only rises under relatively static airflow. In a closed environment of controlled ventilation the effect is negated.

Lowering the CPU location in the case does allow you to run shorter hose lengths from a low-mounted pump. That's the only tangible benefit I can think of.
