View Full Version : what 80mm are rated above avg?
I am currently using 2 Sunon 80mm fans in my case (don't know actual cfm's but these are the std 80mm fans - nothing special). 1 bottom front intake and 1 upper rear outtake. Also using Antec 3-fan HDD cooler (intake) and PSU (outtake). I'm trying to get a little more cool air inside my case without having to mod it. I was thinking of getting 92mm fans instead, but they won't fit unless I mod the case (drill new holes - ugghh).
anyway, what (if any) 80mm fans are rated higher or spin faster than these standard ones? Better yet, is there a voltage mod or something that will increase the rpm's?

Checkout this site, there are many different CFM rating for fans from the same maker;

Personally, I like the high output Panaflos, effiecent and quite.
Generally, the faster a fan spins, the more power it'll need and this is reflected by the higher current (amp) requirement for the higher rpm fans. There is no superlative advantage from a 'better' blade design except to reduce noise so the generic makes are just as good in terms of cfm. Smaller fans take more power but output less cfms simply because smaller devices, in general, aren't as efficient as their bigger brothers. To me, an 'average' 80mm 'eats' 0.14 to 0.16 amp of current (or at least they're the most commonly sold ones where I live), and the 'badass' 80mm's take in 0.2 to 0.35 amps.

get a few 80mm delta screamers they blow 68 cfm but are noisy, they also correct the flow and are called focused flow because the air from them goes straighter then normal fans
