how difficult is it to remove the extra connector?

the lead i bout has three connectors, i want to remove the extension cos i only have one drive and the extra bit of cable is un-necessary and would look untidy.

You can't really shorten th cable that easily, the two end connectors are fixed but the one int he middle is like a pass through so you can easily take that off but the cable will still be the same length, if you wanted to shorten it you'd have to take the middle and one of the end connectors then cut the cable shorter then re-attach the end connector

You could just fold it up or buy a rounded cable that will be the exact size you need.

Go for the rounded cables. They're cheap if you find a decent sale on them, they look so much better, and they improve airflow...

Well... I personally go with the rounded cables in my computer, but I've heard rumors that there is actually a higher transfer rate on the flat style. I'm not sure if this is just bogus info, but if you want to do something with flat cables, i'd go with the folding route. That's how i USED to do it. Just use stationary clips to hold the cable down while you route it through your box and into your peripherals.

In the past I have just cut the end of the IDE cable off. I used a verry sharp knife and just cut at the end of the middle connector. make sure that there are no strands of wire showing or that have pulled out of the cable. I have had only one cable not work after doing this.

Go look under cyber deals. There is a thread for $1 rounded cables. Also there is not difference in transfer rate. That is a myth.

its a rounded cable i got, a nice UV red one. unfortunately here in the UK we aint exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to certain components and i couldnt find the cable i wanted. i think i'll go with cutting the cable at the middle connector. as long as i isolate each wire it should be ok i think :eh?:
