I've sold my AMD Mobile setup and I'm finally going Athlon 64.
I have a few questions about what I should buy before I make my final decision however.
I was thinking about either the 3000+ or 3200+ depending upon the money situation. The mobile A64's are DTRS correct? Do they overclock better usually or just run without heatspreaders?
For a motherboard I was looking at the Chaintech VNF 250 because of the price and the fact that it is a good overclocker. Does this motherboard accept DTR processors? Is there a much better motherboard out there for only a bit more money?
I was also throwing in an SLK heatsink, smart fan 2, and a sparkle 530 watt power supply.
I plan on overclocking this system and getting the most out of my new A64 setup ;)
If you have any ideas or reccomendations please let me know before I make my purchase.

great decision bro. take the 3000 new castle cg revision seeing as how it can oc to pretty good speeds. i used to favor the chaintech for the exact same reasons but after doing a little bit more research i've decided on getting the epox 8kda3j. its only about 10 bucks more, oc's great, stable, and probably better performing overall. i the chaintech doesn't read mobiles btw and i wouldn't suggest getting one now seeing as how the cg rev new castles are pretty good now. i would love to jump to 754 too but i'm still deciding if i should wait for 939 but seeing those prices on 754 is making it very hard on me not to bust out the plastic :D

I will research that epox board. Also - here's the killer decision that I am having.
AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Processor - Retail $175.
Now on the other hand I have
AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1MB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor for DTR Notebooks- OEM Also for $175.
Wouldn't I want to grab the one with the higher L2 cache and Oc for broke with it?
Or are these DTR Notebook A64's different in some ways that I don't know?
the Mobiles are actualy not like the barton mobiles, they perform slightl different and they are a pain in the butt to make work right with our current desktop Mobo's
so i would stay away from the mobiles until further notice, and i like the Abit AV8, and the Epox 8kda3j+, they are some of the best boards on the market for OC'in and you can select either the Nforce chipset, or the Via chipset and still have an excelant OC, but go with what your gut tells you and OC on man!:attn:
