I'm relatively new to overclocking, but have a computer with rescources to do it - I think:

AMD T-Bird 1.4 (now running at 1530 mHz), MOB: EPOX 8KTA3+Pro, 60 GB disk, Matrox G400, 384 MB DRAM.

Cooling: Using a 4' ventilation hose, the CPU-fan draws air directly from outside the capinet, one fan in front of the capinet (have cut hole for air exhaust) sucks out air in additon to the power supply fan. This way most of the air going INTO the machinge, has to pass the cooler on the processor. I run CPUidle Pro.
Consequently I get a CPU temperature on no load at C25. When running Word+Photoshop+Internt Explorer+Outlook (like just now), I get C35-C40 (room temperature C21).

I use the RAID controller an striping RAID 0, which gives my 2x30GB disks quite a boost.

Any suggestions how to speed things even more up?

Nobody's answered me, but I have experimented further. Now my T-Bird runs stable at 1575 mHz with a workload temp. of C30.
FSB 131, multiplier x12, vcore 1.83 V.

Benchmarks (Sisoft Sandra) - while beeing logged on with Explorer and running CPU Cool, Powerstrip, Powerdesk, Download Accelerator, Cache Manager and Copyfaster during the testing: Dhrystone ALU 4398 MIPS, Whetstone FPU 2169 MFLOPS.

Also I have several tweaks in BIOS.

Why are you only running a 131Mhz FSB? that Tbird should be running on a 133Mhz bus at least, and you should easily get a 150FSB out of the mobo (remember and adjust your multiplier tho'). A higher FSB will yield better results than a higher CPU speed.

Well, I just experimented, and so far this is the highest speed I have managet without the machine hanging, crashing og getting unstable. But now I'll try to reduce the multiplier and increase the FSB.

Thanx!

As mentioned ealier, I also have a TB 1.4. For the moment it is running close to 1.6 GHz with very acceptable temperatures.

On the pages I just made, you can se some pics and exactly what I have adjusted in BIOS. Just wait 15 min! :-)

what kind of ram do you have ? and what G-card do you have??the raid might have a problems with the fast bus speed.. Your better off running 133 fsb with a slower cpu speed....the problem with your board is the +5 power supply witch makes it hang... you need a big power supply for that board.. and when you run your computer under load use 3d benchmark 2001 that will give you a max temp..

I have normal DRAM and a G400 card. With my setup, I now run stable at 1.584,8 GHz. My PS is only 250 W, but still...

Have a look (the BIOS settings, pic of CPUcool screen and interior and exterior of the machine) at my page: http://home.powertech.no/ewp/overclock.htm

ya overclocking is kinda funnky you could have the same exact setup and same stepping as someone else and not get your chip to overclock like someone else.... so itz hard to say... It could be your ram... it could be almost anything.. what O.S. are you using Windows 98 ?

I just bought the same mobo and t-bird. I'm still in the burn-in and make-sure-it-works phase. I'll start overclocking in the next day or two. I'll let you know what I learn as I do it, if that'll help you any.

Okay...my first day at overclocking my EPOX 8kta3pro with a 1.4 T-bird. I was able to raise the FSB up to 150 without any trouble or voltage changes (using the 10.5 multiplier). So, that's 1575 MHz, and I didn't see any real increase in temps. But when I tried increasing the multiplier, I ran into some trouble. I tried increasing the voltage a couple of times, with no luck. Then it was late, so I quit for awhile...I'll try again next time. But so far, I'm happy with the mobo.
