I currently have two computers sharing Sympatico dsl, running through a D-Link DSH-5 hub. We can share files and surf the net without any problems. When we hook up to the same game online there is a fair amount of collisions showing on the hub and some pretty abnormal ping spikes. If I were to purchase a dsl/cable router and put it before the hub after the modem relieving the modem from handing out it's second ip would this solve the spikes. If your sure you know the answer please get back to me A.S.A.P. as I will be going to pick up the DI-704 on tuesday.

Thanks Again

Play the game over the network, but not on the internet. I know when I am playing games my collision light gets a workout, but if it's actually causing delays you have problems, kuz hubs will go @ 10 or 100 mbps, internet is running at about 1-2 mbps...

if your gonna go with the dlink router great I got one...enable dhcp on it and you should be all set...the built in switch is great and will cut down on your collision...the problem with the hub is that information being sent to your computer and your second computer is going to both computers from both computers along with whats coming in from the modem causing all your collision. the switch alleviates alot of this by providing full bandwidth to each computer and not sending packets to the computer that didn't request it
