CD -> AIFF -> MP3; any ideas?

Okay, so I'm working on a project for a friend of mine and here what what my instructions are:

1) Help to rip his collection of CDs onto his computer in AIFF format.
2) Convert the AIFF files into MP3s at a later date (>98kbs).

He wants to have accessability to both file formats. (a) because of the high quality of AIFF, and (b) so that he can convert them to MP3 so he can make his collection portable at any given time.

No, he does not have an iPod.

And thus my question is: does there exist any single program that will allow me to do both of the above. If now, which two programs will accomplish said task(s).

And if they are free, so much the better.

Damn, it will? Where the hell is that function, that was probabaly the first place I looked ... sort of.
