I want to know how to turn on the console, "F:\Games\Doom 3\Doom3.exe" +set_console 1 or something? I wanna know because I just got Doom 3 and I wanna turn on the console so I can use the drawfps command.

I've read at some other forums that people who got an early release copy of D3 from Best Buy are having problems with their ATi cards. I believe they said they don't have shadows and just overall general graphical glitches. Can anybody confirm this? This will be a real bummer if Doom 3 comes out on Tuesday and when I go to play it the graphics will mess up.

Sorry but that does not work.

Sound like their having driver issues. I don't think anybody 'round here could help out quite yet, 'cause afaik, nobody here has it yet (and if they do, they're playing it)

well here at Campzone I've seen the game running on my friend's computers (2 9800 pro's and a X800 Pro) and the game looked awesome on all of them and ran great. I did not see any glitches. I think they were all using the latest drivers.

Because Doom3 doesn't use a DirectX8 engine?

I'm just guessing. :p

dyefade
08-02-04, 06:54 AM
Apparently it will use DX9 for sound, input etc, and OpenGL for GFX. Therefore you still need the latest DirectX.

I THINK... don't quote me.

I saw it on an X800 and it didn't really appear to be running well.

Weird, one of my friends ran it on high quality, 1280x 960 and it ran very very good.

How well does the game run on ur Barton, im wondering my cuss A64 system is outa comission right now im waiting for my friends 8KDA3+ (we traided mobo's) and im getting Doom today @ 7pm at Eb games.

I hope i will be able to play @ 1024x768 reso. I should be able to. My brother is using my Barton pc and it is using the stock HSF so i cant overclock at all only the video card.

I have a 1700+@2.2, NFS-7 and 9800p, at medium you have to be worried more about audio desync or an Imp getting too close - once they thwack you, your view [and your body] get tossed around like a ragdoll.

IMO there won't be too many happy people until they make a patch. They seemed to focus more on visual and control innovations rather than solid controls - same "hold ctrl+arrow to straif" as in Doom 2 :( Anyone used to Unreal won't like the basic controls. Trying to keep something in your crosshairs while straifing is IMPOSSIBLE, since you can't rotate while straifing. Maybe I'll get used to it, but ATM its absoluely frustrating. I'd be a much happier camper given the option to change the left/right arrow keys from 'rotate' to 'straif'.

4x aa(is that aa or is that af? i forgot its under the game menu)
every thing is on except for vsync
i get about 9-20 fps out side with these settings 20-25 or 30 ish inside
and when i do 1024x768 with high quality no aa i get about 15 to 20 fps out side and hmmm 30-and sumtimes 60, inside not bad eh? (btw its my friends game, he got it from the place he works or sumthing, but we just played it on my laptop) (btw if the mods dont like the pic u can go a head and remove it with out warning i dont mind)
i think this game is pretty smooth even with those low fps on my laptop, but thats just me i dont no about u guys.....
but what i think is every ones gonna be able to run this game pretty nice with these rigs.. but we havent tried it on my good rig maybe sum other time.

I had to clock my 9800's core clock down to 400 from 412 to get D3 to run artifact-free. This is the *only* game I've played (or benched) with my 9800 where such measures are necessary.

you dont HAVTO, they just said its ideal to run at ultra high, and 256MB card maybe choppy with ultra high because its going to havta use to some virtual memory as video memory.

Ultra high? How? You have to have a 512MB video card to do that.

I'm about 4 hours into the game, and I've been playing it on High Quality the whole time on my 128MB 9800. No problems with hiccuping, stuttering, or any massive drops in FPS that can be attributed to lack of video memory. I won't be surprised if sooner or later I do experience problems, but so far so good.

The game isnt that scary as people mentioned i havent been jumping outa my chair and like 2 hours into the game now. I just met tho 3 eyed things with like 5 legs after looking at the guy pinned to the ceiling.

Those Tentacle things growing in the mars base look so freakin real. As for the story line so far its alot like Half life 1,

The print screen button usually works and just copies the pics to the clipbaord. So you can just open up Paint or some other graphics editing program and paste them, then save them. That's what I always do. You also use Fraps.

In Doom 3, u can take screenshots with the F12 key, they are saved in Doom 3/base/screenshots

I've read about the 'give doom95' command everywhere. It should allow u to play the original doom. But when I use the command nothing special happens, in the menu nothing happens and ingame the console says something like unknown item added to inventory. Anyone knows how this should work?

my problem:
have the 9800pro @ stock (378/338), core @ 225x11=2475 (overlook sig)
settings: 1024x768 medium, 4xAA, all advanced on including vsync
fps dips to ~22 at lowest. typically ~45

anyway, problem is i get these odd "lines" on the screen. hard to explain. not so much lines... looks like the image splitting.
read somewhere vsync on should fix it. not much of a difference.
installed the new cat drivers recently, could that be causing the problem?

Jarlaxe
08-03-04, 03:14 PM
Um, I'm playing on Ultra High, 1280x1024, 2x aa, 4x ani, vertical sync on, and the game never drops below 30fps. This is on a 128mb 6800nu. So that whole thing with 512 is a marketing scam, for you to buy Nvidia's newest 512 cards. Btw i get like 1 hiccup every 10 minutes, which is fine by me.

I went to the support site and it showed how to disable the only software like that that I had which was clone cd. I went ahead and unistalled it but to no avail. I tried every other suggestion on that page but still get the same error message. This is driving me insane. Can anyone help?

If you are having problems with image tearing....

Make sure openGL is set to application preference
Make sure Vsync is on in the game.

I was having this issue. As soon as I turned on Vsync the problems with image tearing went away.

For those of you with clicking sound do either of you have a nforce 2 board? When I installed the lastest nforce mobo drivers I would get audio problems. I reinstalled older ones, it was either the 2.xx version or 3.xx version and it fixed the problem.

I'm experiencing crashing when I use quicksave. It doesn't happen all of the time, but when it does happen, my quicksave is corrupted. I just finished building my new rig, so it was probably premature to toss Doom 3 on it, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Is you OC prime stable? 3dmark2003 stable? That's probally your problem...

BTW, runs great on my system (in sig) 1024x768, no aa 8af. I don't have time to mess with it tonite, but I must say having aa on would be nice. Some of the edges are not so pretty.

I'll have to try some 2xaa w/ temporal aa tomorrow :)

I got my copy at around 4:30 from Best Buy. Got it home, it installed just fine, but when I tried to run the game, it refused to recognize the cd. I had talked to a friend of mine earlier and he had the exact same problem. I had heard about this retarded "no cd burning software" thing, so I uninstalled everything I could think of, to no avail. I called the customer service line, and the guy told me to install manually, that didn't work either. Went back to Best Buy, exchanged my copy for another one, got home the EXACT SAME THING happened again. The tech support guy verfied that I had all the correct drivers and such, and mentioned that they might be having trouble with their cds. I still haven't managed to play the stupid game!

have a wierd problem here. i just a geforce 6800 non-pro and doom 3.

problem is that no matter what the graphics settings are, i still get the same fps! i mean, on low detail, and at any resolution, i still only manage to get the same fps in the very begining when you are looking at the hovering ship, or just walking around. and even on the high settings with any resolution i get the same damn fps!

my system is in my sig below, but i have a 6800 card instead of the old ti4600.

can someone shed some light? i mean, if it continues, i will just keep it at high settings with 1600x1200 resolution since lower settings dont increase my fps.

the only thing that affected the fps was putting AA to 16x, which made the game unplayable.

anyone else with an SMP try doom 3?

is this a sign of my mp2000+ not being able to hand the game? i realy thought that i would be able to play the game in high settings with high resolution just fine, but apearantly not. i guess i can check my bios and see if the settings favor full agp performance.....

also, anyone know what the highest mp chip i can put in the k7dmaster if i need to upgrade cpu?

Saw this over on the beyond3d forum. Might help some people with low frame rates:

Link to post: http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14729

Hmm, i saw this on a car board i frequent when i am at work, yes everyone is talking bout doom. Either way there was a post like this:

"I tried this and Im now runnig at 1280x1024 compared to 800x600 at the same settings.

"As all of you who allready have this game recognized the game is very slow even on new Computers.

I found out the reason for this and the solution to fix this problem.

As you already know after installation the game consits only of the doom3.exe and some .PK4 files. Those PK4 files includes the entire game (sounds, videos, textures etc.) in high compressed form.

Normally those files were decompresse during the game.

But this exactly is the problem. Even new CPUs are not able to decompress those files while running the game with good peformance and therfore the game runs very **** also on new computers. I don't know if the develpers of ID-Soft was just too stupid to think about this or if they have an agreement with some hardware manufacturing firms.

How to get around this problem:

It is very simple. Go to your Doom 3 installation directoy and get inside the folder "Base". There are some .PK4 files you have to open each of them with WinRAR 3.3 and extract their entire contents to the Base dir in you Doom 3 installation folder (replace all files if they are any duplicates). Now you have to delete all .PK4 files in the Base folder to prevent the game to use those compressed files agian.

Now the game starts and runs mutch faster!!!

Have fun playing Doom 3!!! "

then followed with this

This is a guarenteed way to get a MASSIVE performance increase to your game, at the expense of taking up a little more hard drive space (2 gigs approx). I went from running low quality at 800x600 to running High Quality on 1024x768. This improves load times AND framerate/details.

There is a catch! By doing this, you temporarily can't connect to pure multiplayer servers. You have been warned (I'll tell you how to revert it at the end)

After installation, the Doom III Folder consists only of the doom3.exe and some .PK4 files. Those PK4 files includes the entire game (sounds, videos, textures etc.) compressed. They are normally uncompressed in mid game, which is very hard on your CPU. Lets fix this!

1. Make a copy of ALL the files in C:\Program Files\Doom 3\base. This is some big filage, but if you want to revert to MP without reinstalling you need to do it.

2. Unrar the following .pk4 files (just pretend they are .rar's and open them with winrar) into the C:\Program Files\Doom 3\base folder (each one should unrar a single folder such as textures or models):

pak000.pk4
pak001.pk4
pak002.pk4
pak003.pk4
pak004.pk4 (This one has many files, put them all in \Base and over right any that apply.

3. Now delete the files above (pak000-004) or move them to another folder for storage so you can revert to multiplayer.

When you want to revert to multiplayer, restore everything you had before and get rid of the new stuff. I'm not sure if the folder "maps" is the same or not, so make sure you back that up.

When in normal mode, you should have "maps" "savegames" "config.spec" "doomConfig.cfg" "doomkey" "game00.pk4" and "gamex86.dll", nothing else.
ALSO! If you open DoomConfig.cfg (C:\programfiles\doom3\base) in notepad and change

seta image_cacheMegs "32"

to a higher number, such as 96 or 128 you will see a big increase too.

I know this will work great for all of you, it has for me!

(NOTE I am not the one that came up with this I am just passing it along!)

Not entirely sure about doom3, haven't played it yet. But, if you are going to upgrade your CPU's (which I would if it was my main rig/gaming rig) I would find two mobiles & have them modded or find two premodded mobiles (could do it yourself). 2.5ghz duallies would be sooooooo nice. That is probably the highest CPU's you could get in there. They are not MP CPU's but it's the fastest you will ever get on the K7D Master.

I'm well aware that many Audigy users are getting sound glitches and problems when running Doom 3. I myself run an NForce2 based system, an Abit NF7-S 2.0, w/ the latest Nvidia WHQL system drivers (4.27), and am getting sound issues all over the place. I run it in Soundstorm DD 5.1 mode. Sometimes the sound will completely shut off, sometimes it gets garbled and crackly, and sometimes it never starts w/ the game at all. This is getting very, very annoying when playing D 3. If you experience similiar issues please post here so we can potentially narrow this down.

I did some testing on this because it really annoyed me that I would loose around 10 fps if I wanted to run the game with vsync on. I now have a method that gives no tearing WITHOUT vsync.

What u are going to do is running the game at a refresh rate of 85 hertz. U can do this the following way:

Go to ur Doom 3\base folder. Create a new text file and call it 'autoexec.cfg'. Now edit the text file by adding the following command to it:

set r_displayRefresh "85"

Don't forget to save. Now start Doom 3. The game should be running in 85hz mode. Turn off vsync and load a map. In my case, the image tearing was as good as gone, I think it's safe to say that it WAS gone. I ran the timedemo demo1 again and I got exactly as much fps as I got with the game running in 60hz with vsync off. Try for yourself and post how it helped u. Maybe u want to experiment with different refresh rates if u want to go higher than 85 or something.

The Panzerknacker

EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've played some more and I concluded that this fix REDUCED the tearing, it did not eliminate it. I did some more testing and it seemed that 140hz was fine as well. 120hz sucked. I keep it at 85 cuz my monitor can't make the image fill the screen at that refresh rate.

it is not 60, although it does hit 60 at times.

the problem is that it drops to the teens during gameplay, especially with other characters in the screen. i thought that it would be smooth throughout, thats why i go the 6800 series card.

the framerate drop is absurd. i mean it is 60 one second, then 12 the next when i look at another, more graphically intense area.

the most irritating thing is that i can be at low settings at the lowest resolution and not really gain any more fps :(

No offense, but what does it matter what the hover ship looks like? Are your game-playing FPS ok?

Keep in mind that every card has its strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps your card is weak at some piece of code involved in that hover ship, but it might be stronger in several other (more important) ways.

the other thing i noticed is that it looks like 512 megs of ram is not enough because there is plenty of pausing so the upcomming area can be loaded into memory.

What resolution and quality level are you trying to run? With 512 MB of RAM, you won't be able to run the highest settings. Are you running the Autodetected recommended settings? Those are a good start.

Trying some of the tweaks I linked to, in my previous post, may help your stuttering/swapping problem. I would recommend defragging after those tweaks, though. You'll see why.

the auto-detect recommends medium settings at 800x600 resolution.

it seems that 512 of ram just isn't enough becuase there is too much pausing to load upcomming rooms.

but i am confused as to why the fps suck. it gets choppy even if there are like 2 other people talking to eachother (before the invasion) and some rooms get choppy as well. and of course, when i am in a battle. i thought the 6800 would take of fps but this is not the case. im so dissapointed. i find it so hard to belive that my rig is a bottleneck here because i am assuming the graphics card is what really matters when it comes to fps.

here is another factor in the this problem. before i installed the 6800 in my rig, i installed it on a friend of mine's. he has a 2.6 p4 with pc3200, 1 gig. and when he was looking at the hover ship he was getting 30 fps, compared to his 20 fps when he was running his 9800pro oc'd to xt speeds. so it was clear the the 6800 stock card was whipping all over his 9800 pro, oc'd card. i assumed that i could at least match his 9800 performance with my 6800 and my rig. but this is not the case. i thought that even though i have a slower system that him, the 6800 would have giving me the edge, or at least matched his performance with that 9800 ati.

I'm getting 25-30 FPS at the Hovership, as you described. I have a gig of RAM in my P4, here, and I had a gig in my AMD dually, also. I'm not sure this is why I'm not having problems, but it is a possible culprit.

I think your memory amount is your bottleneck. This is what to do:

1. Do those tweaks I mentioned above. They will relieve your system from having to decompress data. This might save you some RAM and some CPU cycles.

2. Make sure your BIOS settings are optimized. Crank your AGP Aperture as high as it will go, setup fast memory timings, etc, turn off unnecessary shadowing, etc. Check this page for optimized BIOS settings for gaming systems: http://www.omegadrivers.net/nvidia/mb_bios.php

3. Tweak your running Services in the Operating System. This can free up more RAM and close potential security holes. Use the Windows Services Guide at www.blackviper.com. He has one for Windows XP and one for Windows 2000.

4. Close any unnecessary programs, before starting up the game.

5. If all else fails, read through the Doom3 Tech Support/Troubleshooting thread that I linked to, above. If you are having this problem, there is a good chance someone else has had it, too. Maybe one of the tips in there will help.

i actually dont have time right now to do all those tweaks. and i dont like the fact that i have to go to extensive lengths to make this game run the way it should. i did not imagine i would be having such bad fps with the latest and greatest graphics card. but oh well.

anyway, you say you get 25-30 fps at the hovership. are you running on high settings? can you run it on low settings and go to the lowest resolution and then tell me if your fps increased? i imagine they would increase dramatically. but in my situation they wont increase at all (maybe 2 fps more). i dont understand this.

also, how can my ram be the bottleneck when it comes to frames per second? i only see my ram as limiting me to a pause-free game. i dont see how putting in another 512 megs of ram will increase the fps.

heh,,,,why me,,,,why.........lol

Geez, man.... Today was the day the game was released. It is a little early to be so upset, don't you think? Give the video card companies a few days to get updated drivers and ID software is already working on a patch.

I think, however, that the problem is just some configuration stuff on your machine, as I mentioned.

It WILL work, just be patient. Read, read, then read some more. Since today is THE DAY the game was released, there aren't millions of user experiences all floating around, yet, but we have dozens and dozens in our own forums. Others had similar problems and have discussed those, with many or most being resolved, already.

ok i run the demo in the game

timedemo demo1.demo is the command

i did it with high settings set to the highest resolution and i got 30.6 fps

with low settings and lowest resolution i got 34.1 fps

with high settings and 1280x1024 (the settings that i was hoping i could play with) i got 31 fps.

from number-wise those look good. my fried's computer spits out 28 fps with high settings in 1280x1024 when he runs the time demo.

but his computer runs the game better during gameplay.

it doesnt match up. i am more confused than ever. lol

I was just over at a friend's house who has a FX 5600 and a P4 2.6C, OC'd to 3.2 I think. It was running at framerates between 10-15 at totally low setttings for a while and he eventually got it to run 800x600 medium quality. I think what he said he did was uninstall drivers, reinstall drivers + reinstall DirectX. It was something like that but it totally wasn't a bad video card. Just some bad software.

Sound problems Audigy 2 ZS. Surround Sound loss or cracking when selected. If I choose No Surround Sound and go Head Phones it's ok. If anyone has a fix for it. Please post!!

Audigy 2 ZS problem, I was having. I found a workable solution. In your Windows Control Panel for Sound and Audio Devices/Sound Playback/Advanced..Choose Surround sound Speakers. Not 5.1 or 7.1! Then in Performance Tab. I had to back down Hardware Acceleration to the 2nd notch or "Basic Acceleration". I guess Audigy's need to be lowered for Doom3. Sound so far seems good!!

Try this. Open the config file, find these settings (all together) and change them to look like this:

seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "256"
seta image_cacheMinK "20480"

Might not give extra FPS but should help with opening doors etc where the game can pause for a few secs.

BTW I'm playin at 1600x1200 high settings, 2xaa +8xaf. In HEAVY fire fights the fps can drop to 20+ but 90% of the time it runs 30-60fps. i just have a problem with the sound. It keeps turning off (same as painkiller) This didnt happen with my 9800pro. Just the x800 card. More driver problems I think.

I've been searching for awhile now, but haven't found much on these settings

seta image_useCache "0" (shouldn't this be 1 for image_cacheMegs to work?)
seta image_cacheMegs "20" (20!!!!! so 256 here instead?)
seta image_cacheMinK "200" (huh)
seta image_usePrecompressedTextures "1" (set to 0 after unzipping those pk4 files?)
seta image_useNormalCompression "0" (set to 1 after unzipping pk4 files?)
seta image_useAllFormats "1" (huh)
seta image_useCompression "1" (huh)

Anyone found anything worth saring? I've read that setting cachemegs up to 128 or 256 makes a HUGE diff, but am not sure if you need to set UseCache to 1 or just leave it at 0....

Ok i just ran the timedemo demo1 at 1024x768 with ultra quality setting. no aa/af. with 4.7 cats i got 34.1fps average. 4.9 beta cats "optimized for doom 3" got me 35.1 on the same demo, same settings.

my system is:

asus p4c800-e dlx
p4 2.4 @ 3.3
1gb mushkin level ll 2-2-2-5 timings
9800 pro 445/370

the time demo gets choppy at points, but strangly enough the game is generally smooth when i play it. the only time it gets choppy is when i open a door or get into heavy combat. i think the changes mentioned above have helped that.

I have an Audigy2 and have zero sound issues...

I am not sure on this game yet. After installing it 2 nights ago my computer would not boot to windows anymore, had to reformat. So after 2 days of downloading updates and patches for windows and antivirus, (ended up with about a dozen viruses just trying to get all my windows updates) I finally got the game installed again. I just find that the game is running at very low fps, I mean my vid card is only one generation old lol. I have had the game freeze on me a couple of times as well and my video card is not OC'ed either, as a matter of fact it does it with the video card oc'ed or not. I am thinking that maybe it is a sound issue. Anyways, I have the game, got it the day that it was released from Best Buy and I do have to say that it does look good, but I think that there are a few bugs in it.

I don't know if anyone else has posted or noticed this, but Vsync may be buggy in Doom3. I'm using CAT4.9 beta's and when i turn Vsync on it lowers my FPS on PURPOSE. When i say this, i mean it'll lower it to 30FPS cap for NO reason at certain times that make NO SENSE. For example, when i'm looking at a wall, it'll be 60FPS. When i move a little bit, still looking at the wall, it'll go ALL THE WAY DOWN to 30FPS flat, and stay there. Even when i turn my flashlight on it stays @ 30FPS. So i turn Vsync off and it's fine. 1024x768 on high.

Dragonprince that did not get rid of the clicking I am hearing

If you have onboard sound and your rig is OC'd then you probably have an issue with SouthBridge chipset cooling. I would suggest some active cooling and using ArticSilver as your thermal paste.

If you have a PCI card like an Audigy then try moving it to a different PCI slot. If that fails try a different sound card, yours may be bad.

My rig is OC'd and I had some sound issues in games when using the onboard AC97 audio. I know that its due to the small and cheesy heatsink on my SouthBridge not being able to handle any OCing at all. I had an Audigy2 to use anyway so instead of mounting a proper heatsink on the SouthBridge I just disabled onboard audio and went with the Audigy2. No more issues...

Thanks to Kombatant for showing me this thread posted by Humus on Beyond3d it makes for interesting reading indeed. I can verify it works as ive deinstalled Doom long ago but its worth checking out.

First, open your doom3\base folder. Doubleclick on the pak000.pk4 file. In the "window can't open this file .. .bla bla" dialog, go on and associate the file with an app like WinRar. With this file open in WinRar, go to the glprogs directory in the file. In there you'll find the shaders. The interaction.vfp file seems to be the main rendering shader. Altering this shader to output a constant color turns most objects into that constant color, except for stuff like computer screens etc.

So doubleclick the interaction.vfp file to open it (you may have to associate the .vfp extension with a text editor like notepad or wordpad first since we're going to edit the file). Scroll down to the fragment shader. You'll find these rows:

Code:
PARAM subOne = { -1, -1, -1, -1 };
PARAM scaleTwo = { 2, 2, 2, 2 };

Add this right below them:

Code:
PARAM specExp = { 16, 0, 0, 0 };

Now scroll down to this:

Code:
# perform a dependent table read for the specular falloff
TEX R1, specular, texture[6], 2D;

Comment out that line by adding a "#" to it, and add another line that will do the same thing with math instead, so it should look like this:

Code:
# perform a dependent table read for the specular falloff
# TEX R1, specular, texture[6], 2D;
POW R1, specular.x, specExp.x;

Save the file and close your text editor. WinRar will ask if you want to update the file in the archive, select yes. Close WinRar and enjoy about 40% higher performance in Doom3. Haven't done extensive testing yet, but my performance went from 34fps in 1280x1024 to 48fps.

POSSIBLE CLICKING SOUND FIX:

I have not tried this yet, but this was posted on another forum in a clicking sound topic:

hey guys, I found a solution on another board. Turns out it's a problem with one of the footstep sound effects. Here's what to do:

1. make a temp directory
2. open pak003.pk4 with winzip
3. sort by path
4. find all the files in sound\ed\player\steps and highlight them
5. click extract and choose your temp directory
6. go to the newly created sound\ed\player\steps and look in the last directory \steps
7. I used winamp to play the .ogg files
8. File step10.ogg is the offending file, remove it and back it up somewhere else.
9. Choose any other stepxx.ogg file you want to use to replace step10.ogg and make a copy of it. I found step13.ogg to work well.
10. rename the copied file step10.ogg
11. Now drag the whole directory tree: sound\ed\player\steps back into the opened pak003.pk4 file.
12. Close winzip.
13. Done!
You're welcome.

Has anyone tried this? Also, does anyone know exactly what it does? Will it lower IQ at all or anything like that?

I have tryed it and it works. I have not noticed any difference in the quality of graphics. I was getting 23fps in the time demo and now i am at 31fps.

Out of all the "tweaks" i have tryed, this one actualy works.

I am having terrible trouble with this, so anyone who is going to try it, back up your original file before you go messing with it.

When I try this tweak, my video goes so dark I can hardly see a thing. It's way too dark to play with that, and when running timedemo1, I actually had a slightly lower FPS. (from 23.7 to 21.4).

This is my system:
AMD Athlon 1800+
ATI Radeon 9600PRO 128

I NEED HELP.

Doom3 won't load. I run the game, click New Game, Marine/Recruit/Veteran, and then the loading screen appears. The bar gets about 1/8th full and the game then returns to the main menu. I've tried every different video setting. I got Nvidia's latest drivers. I reinstalled Direct X 9.0b. I've reinstalled the game. I don't know what else to do or what else to check. My system is in my sig.

When trying to join a multiplayer game I get the message: Missing 1 Media Pak Files: 0xc51 ECDCD
http://webpages.charter.net/deathwish238/Doom3%20Error.JPG
What does that mean?

WTH do I do to make Doom3 work properly?

HELP PLEASE!!

mhhh doom3 timedemo sucks.

when playing with the ati 4.9 drives and dx9c (sound) and some tweaks it all feels a lot smoother then the FPS increase I get in the timedemo. funny thing is that so many people confirm this.

oh I never go below 40Fps normally and sometimes SOMEtimes drop to 30Fps. which is exellent for a 9800pro 128MB and slow 2700ddr ram.
cant wait for hl2... hahah who needs an a64 and a new graphics card.
oh high details. 1024 resolution.

I have not tryed humus's tweeks, as some people have had problems with them....

yet I'm one of the people who would like to have some duct tape for Doom3...
for anyone who wishs for a flashlight on your shotgun and machinegun, here is some duct tape....LOOK. (http://ducttape.glenmurphy.com/)

Did the Humus tweak last night worked flawless. Went from 40ish FPS all the way up to 52-54 FPS now! Not a bad increase from what I consider. Running 4.6Cats with 2x aa and 8xaf @ 1280x1024. My vid card is not at xt-pe speeds (due to cooling issues) but runs dang nice at these settings can't wait to play through the game again.

Sounds like you need to try a manual install, looks to me like for some reason a file wasn't copied to your hard drive when the game was installed.

Instructions for doing a manual install can be found here:

Wow. That's quite an increase. I'm going to have to try it. So it's basically just inserting that one line of code?

no, just adds flashlight to your shotgun and machinegun...the light isn't wide, so it still retains some darkness/creapyness to the lvls.

a great mod that adds to the game, while not realy taking anything away from it.

a must have in my book.

Question about a level in the game. It's in the Alpha Labs Sector. Does anyone remember the room where as soon as you fire, the entire place goes up in flame? There are two monsters that spawn in there and every time I fire at them or use a grenade, the entire place goes up. Must be an oxygen rich environment or something. Anyone know the best way to handle this...or perhap there was some valve or something that I didn't turn on.

Yea just adding lines, it looks better too I think, but hey might be me since I havn't touched the game for a couple days. :) Mmm nightmare time, ooh that should be some good killing, or maybe I'll just go casual and check out the secrets in the map.

Don't mean to sound ignorant...I downloaded the .rar file from that link. So i extract that file, then overwrite the old one. And it's in base/glprogs right?

deathman20

I guess lol. I just edited the file myself. Just make sure you make a backup of the old file otherwise if it messes up somehow, you'll just have to copy it back over or pull the pk4 file off the CD and put it back on the drive.

I'm on the delta lvls so I can't remember corectly if I'm giving you the right info....

there was a room I remember entering that had machines on the left.
hit the machines with a stray shotgun blast and you'll blow up.
my hint: back up and let the montsters come after you, then use the machinegun to kill the two monsters away from the machines.

Yeah I think we're talking about the same place. I'll try avoiding those machine with any shots. Maybe that's it.
