Just upgraded to an Elsa GeForce2 32Mb (350) SDR on an Asus A7V. The performance numbers are quite poor. Installed this with the standard drivers included on the Elsa CD-rom.

I'm assuminmg that my next step is to install new drivers - looking for some advice on newer bugfree drivers?

Thanks

I have the 12.90 drivers here (http://speshalk.dyndns.org:1812/programs/), working problem free for me.

Pinky,

Thanks - Before getting your response I was able to download the nvidia 12.9 drivers for win9X. Two Questions:

1) Do you feel the 12.9 drivers will make a worthwhile improvement over the original drivers?

2) If so; I want to confirm the installatin procedure?

- I have downloaded the 12.9 drivers (a 5Mb zipped file to my alternate system) I then unzipped/ extracted the file onto a zip disk and am preparing to install this on the intended system.

- I will be starting with the above mentioned "Nvidia" directory on my zip disk. This appears to be an unzipped folder containing the 12.9 drivers (81 files,14.3mB)

- I have heard that I need to get my display reset to standard VGA settings before starting the 12.9 install?

-I have also heard that I might have to go to safe mode to uninstall any existing video drivers? Is this really necessary??

-Any tips will be appreciated

Thanks,
CKoht

You shouldn't have to uninstall the old drivers, that's never been an issue for me .. this is mostly because of voodoo driver conflicts, but you're not upgrading from a voodoo card so...

Go into the device manager, go into the properties for your video card and select the "Update driver" option from there.

Or the same procedure through the display properties. You will have to reboot once the drivers are updated.

One word of advice, benchmark with 3dMark before and after the installation of the new drivers. This will tell you whether the update helped (it usually does if the installation went correctly).

Elsa writes its own drivers for its Vidcards. I suggest DLing the latest driver for your Vidcard from elsa.com. When the original GF 256's were new, Elsa departed from nVidia's reference chipset enough to make reference drivers from nVidia unsuitable for Elsa's own GF256's.

I dunno if this is still true. I'd try Elsa's own updated driver first.

Says he's using the geforce 2 MX, so the reference drivers are the same as the nvidia ones (can be seen here (http://www2.elsa.de/Internet/ElsaFileArea.nsf/files?OpenView&Start=1&Count=1000&Expand=4.5.5#4.5.5)).

I don't think we're talking about the video in model. If so, the elsa drivers would be needed.

1- Switch to a generic VGA adapter(Do not restart yet)
2- Delete all the programs in your ADD/Remove Programs section in Control Panel
3- Restart. Windows will find new hardware.
4- Install it as a "PCI VGA Adapter", reboot
5- After your computer boots in it's 640X480 glory, install your preferred drivers (12.90)

I have an Elsa Gladiac Geforce2GTS and the 12.90 drivers work great. You'll need to do the "coolbits" hack if you want to overclock the card.

Install the 12.90's only if you don't have video out or if you don't plan on using it.

Good Luck!
