getting started with mandrake halflife server

ive got the right tar.gz. but when i tar -xvzf the file i get no ./compile file. that dosnt alarm me too much cause ive seen it before on progs that dont need to be compiled. but this one, in the procces of starting, tells me that it cant use the gui because it was not comfigured during compile. hell id dl another distro just to run this prog if i have to. so if anyone has one of these going please tell me and ill copy your whole setup

If you can tell me where to download this I'll figure it out for you. Is this the same as the counter-strike server?

do you mean the configure file?

try typing:

./configure && make && make install

sorry ive been busey with school. i cant even l even look up where to get it cause the scools network is deathly slow. seriously ive had plenty of 56k and this is slower. ill try that./configure though. thanks guys

When I downloaded the halflife server it didn't need to be compiled...it was already done. Just run hlds with whatever options are needed (been a while since I've done this, so I have no clue which ones are good or not)...I don't even remember where I found the information that I did find...I think I got some from the Counterstrike forums/website, and some from the Half-life software manual.

I found that this works for most of the servers that I used, actually.
