I myself have use alot of usb stuff lately and i want to ask that how u guys use a usb flash storage @ mp3player or pendrive.
i always just plug in and out after use without stopping it in the tray..so will that harm my device??
my fren say it will do harm but if im not transferring any file ,wouldnt it easier to just plug out that thing ?

It won't harm the device, but the data on it could be corrupted if there is a transfer which you thought was finished, but it really wasn't... Stopping the device before removal ensures that all communications are finished to prevent any errors. It's a good idea, and I almost always stop my USB hard drives and pendrive before removal. ;)

Well if you are transfering files, there is usually a progress indicator... But windows isn't perfect, and if there is some sort of access on those files outside of when it is plainly indicated, removal can kill the data - this is why stopping the devices is built in, to prevent this possibility.

I usually do not stop my CD drive on my laptop before removing it because unless I am burning a CD I am not going to be losing any data. But I would, as IMOG said, stop anything when you are transfering data to and from the device.
