I'm formatting my pc.. and I just wanted to get everything ready
I've been repeatedly warned about codec packs and how they have the tendency to mess up an xp system so I decided to install codecs one by one (its even more fun that way :p)

Heres the list of codecs (and apps) I'm installing:
----------------------
C O D E C S
----------------------
* DivX Pro
* XviD
* 3ivX
* Windows Media 7
* Windows Media 8
* Windows Media 9 VCM
* On2 VP3
* On2 VP6
* Cyberlink DVD decoder
* Ligos Indeo XP
* Intel Indeo
* Intel Indeo
* Intel I.263
* huffyuv
* MS MPEG-4
* Ligos/Elecard/MainConcept MPEG-2 demuxers & decoders
* AC3 DirectShow decoder
* DivX Anti-Freeze
----------------------
A P P S
----------------------
* GSpot Codec Information Appliance
* Bsplayer (for divx files+dvds)
* Media Player Classic (for replacing windows' crap media player)

*I didnt include audio codecs since I'm installing foobar2000*

Is there anything else I should add?
Where do I get all these codecs from?
I've heard there are different versions of these codecs around (ffdshow for example).. which in your opinion is the best I use for each video type?

Thanks for reading, expecting your cool replies :burn:

you could probably cut these:

* DivX Pro
* XviD
* 3ivX
* Windows Media 7
* Windows Media 8
* Windows Media 9 VCM
* On2 VP3
* On2 VP6
* Cyberlink DVD decoder
* Ligos Indeo XP
* Intel Indeo
* Intel Indeo
* Intel I.263
* huffyuv
* MS MPEG-4
* Ligos/Elecard/MainConcept MPEG-2 demuxers & decoders
* AC3 DirectShow decoder
* DivX Anti-Freeze

to just:
* DivX Pro
* XviD
* Windows Media 9
* Elecard's MPEG-2 decoder
* AC3 DirectShow decoder
* DivX Anti-Freeze
* Cyberlink DVD decoder (well, PowerDVD)

in my experience, just those play most things...
if there is a video i can't play, then i just install that codec then...no need to have it contaminating my system when i don't use it :)

I really like your style :)

Well looks like I'm only installing ffdshow... it runs Divx, xvid, Windows Media's.. I already have AC3 since I get it with foobar2000.. Dont need DVD decoder since no dvd drive on this pc :)

only thing left is, DivX Anti-Freeze.. I'll see if I need it or not before installing
