Lian-Li PC-70 opportunity

I stopped by a local computer shop that just came into town. They had very very crappy stuff there but I found a Lian-Li pc-71 behind some stuff. I asked him where he'd got it because it wasn't boxed or anything. He said UPS came to him with undelivered and unclaimed computer stuff and sold it to him cheap. The case was in excellent condition and he said the only problem he knew it had was one of the feet was missing.

He said he'd sell it to me for half of retail. I'm pretty sure I could talk him into selling it for about.. $70. That's with power supply. I didn't inspect it close enough to see what one though. I know this is a good deal but I just spent $50 on a case after prying my wife for it. Any ideas on how to work her to get this case? I want it bad heh

If she doesnt know anything about cases or computers... tell her something like, "MAN! There's electricity arcing off of the PS onto the case! Dang these steel reinforced cases! I just cant win" Then tell her that you need to get a new one or your computer will fry itself, and also promise her you wont spend a ton of money.

She knows plenty about computers and cases. That's why it's such a problem. Maybe if I can find something to sell for $60-70 I'll just do that and buy it without saying anything. I still have some SCSI hard drives I'm trying to get rid of hehe good luck to me though.

To be honest, you could just tell her that it's a stupendous deal, and that passing it up would be a travesty.

Do you go out to eat a lot, or rent movies, or go to the theatres? You could tell her for a month you will severely cut back on these expenditures. Don't get soda get water kind of thing. That's what I do to save some money...not that it always works ;)

I go out to eat a fair amount. I think if I promise not to go out to eat for a month (unless it's with her) I might be able to swing it. Great idea safronz!

Which means I have to find something to sell or a way to earn the money outside of my paychecks. ;p

Um... not to offend you, but kick her in the teeth and tell her that it's your paycheck not hers. 70 bucks is about 3 hours of work for me. I'm guessing you get about the same?

No offense taken. It *is* my paycheck but I'm just trying to be responsible with *our* money. We are married after all. I just like to keep track of where our money is going and all. :)

And I wish I made that much. I don't make jack. I make $10/hr which isn't bad for the cost of living in Utah but the market here is saturated for the work I do so it's tough to get a job. I can say I LOVE my job though. Zero to little stress, I can play games (UT2k4 and such) at work. I actually feel like I'm getting away with something making $10/hr for what I do here.

Ah... i gotcha then. If it's a matter of income, then theres nothing wrong with showing some strength and saving your pennies. Supporting yourself should come first, and later, if you have the extra money, then look at the case.

I didnt realize your income... i always compare everyone else to me in terms of jobs, and always forget that I'm lucky to have the pay rate I have. Just out of college and wutnot, it's hard to find a job. I'm actually temping right now as a Buyer/Purchasing Agent at Pratt & Whitney Aerospace. The work is long... 9 hours a day, but I couldnt pass up the pay. And being as I live on my own, I have quite a few expenses to deal with like rent, health insurance, car insurance, repaying college loans, and the small loan I took out on my new car... then there's food, internet, and my Star Wars: Galaxies habit that has to be taken into account...

$22.38 per hour... double time on Saturdays... Saturdays are optional, but i cant pass up $44.76 an hour for 9 hours work.

Or, go to the store and like superglue your hand to it, or like just start modding it there. When the owner is like you have to buy it, but like "ok."

Tell your wife he made you do it and that he was very mean to you. That'll get her on your side for sure. ;)

I work for a place called NBO Systems. We do hardware/software support for mall clients that sell gift cards and gift certificates across the country. Currently my only job is secondary phones. Which means that if the primary phones guy is actually on a call and it rings again, I have to answer. Currently we're getting about 5 calls a day and so I haven't taken a call in 3-4 weeks.

Heh... sounds like alot, but I have quite a few expenses. My car insurance is high because I am driving an '04 Acura RSX type S A-spec, i'm paying back $10,000 on a bank loan I took from the bank for my car since i didnt want to pay for it all at once, i'm paying back $25,000 on my college loan, paying $650 a month for rent on a 2 bedroom/1 bath/kitchen/living room/dining room apartment, not to mention all my other expenses.

I got lucky man. If I didnt have this job, these expenses would kill me, and I have to tell you, i'm not doing anything that i studied for in college. I went to Savannah College of Art and Design and studies 3D computer animation/motion graphics/stop motion modelling and animation, and i've been lookin for a job in that field for over a year. No one is hiring even though I've sent out over 700 resumes, 250 demo reels, and 400 flat books of my work. My field is so oversaturated with people right now its impossible to find work.

I went through a temp agency and got this job, and my contract is up next July. Hopefully by then, they'll hire me on permanantly so i can get a raise and full benefits...

Near SLC. I live in Layton and I'm moving to Bountiful in a couple of weeks. And not everyone knows what you mean when you say you need to pay for a mission hehe. Common talk around here and in certain circles but most people I find say "What are you talking about?" heh

the economy these days are bad. computer people like us can't find a decent job because there are always better and more qualified people out there. I am so lucky that i got this job while i was in high school and i am currently still working at the same job except for the generous raise that they gave me ($16, it was $10 when i first started 2 years ago).

$70 is nothing, it is like a day of work and that money you can use for that case. just tell you wife, "honey, we can't go out to eat for couple of weeks because i am getting my dream case. Without it is like without you, i'll be loney and sad!!! If you love me, then you should know how important this is to me. " lol hope that will do. if not, then sell ur current case to the store in exchange for that case .

I work from 9:30am to 6pm Tuesday-Saturday. I'm all by my lonesome from 4:30 to 6. That's my "me" time that I play games.

Another idea I have, I have a Laserjet 4050 that I'm not using and haven't used in forever. All nice and serviced with new 10,000 print toner cart. Wonder if he'll trade me straight across for the case. Or I'll just sell it on Ebay and use that for my cash.
