is it possible to run a 122 wat peltier from a 500 watt power supply? the supply would just have a few fans hooked up and no motherboard or drives.

I'd look for a 12 volt model. A 500 watt power supply should be able to handle the amps consistently

Be careful, most PSUs are rated in peak wattage. See if you can find the RMA wattage rating (Its the continuos load rating).

Get a bench power supply, the kind a garage or experimenter would use. Ususally cheaper and stronger than computer PSUs. Try Home Depot, or Checker etc. Remember, the Amperage is more important in this case. Check the maximum amperage of you 500 watter @ 12V, you really need at least 10A to handle the fluctuating draw of a pelt under load. At least, mine never worked well till I fed it off my 25A bench supply.
