Back in Iowa :( Come on Gators, Get up and Go!
A buddy of mine has this problem: double click his C: drive in My Computer XP thinks he is installing something. It says that the installation has not been completed or something like that. Although he can right click the start and explore it just fine.

PLEASE help...

Kind of sounds like that problem has potential to be a virus. Spyware, anti-virus all up to date & has been run? What OS?! When did this occur & what was he doing at the time?

NM, dead tired, hes on XP.....

Your friend may have copied some files to C:\ when he shouldnt have =p Find a file called autorun.inf or something like that.. delete it. Also some other files like cab or setup.exe if they are there.
