I am currently thinkin of dumpin my voodoo to someone else and gettin a good nvidia based card.
Thoughts aside, if i place heatsinks on my two fans on my card, i noticed there are 2 holes on two opposing corners of each fan, how much do u think i would be able to overclok this granny, well i tried a couple of times and the graphics came a bit glitchy!
By the way i moved all PCI slot cards one place away from the card so the fans have more area to operate, cause before they were blocked by the creative card!, and now i am thinkin of maybe placing some heatsink over the fans or some other kind of cooling hardware without the necessary movemet of the fans!, can anyone advise pls ????
I have a V5 5500 and it doesn't OC very much at all. I have relegated it to a backup machine that way I still have glide if I need it. Go with the GeeForce. I got a GF2 Ultra and am thrilled you can't even begin to compare these 2 cards against eachother not even in the same class.

Yeah
In fact my next choice is close for the Gforce 2 PRO but what about the ATI Radeon 64DDR, is it good ?
also what is the best mobo i can get to run my sytem on?
:D
Zuck Gou :)

Well I dont agree on the whole V5 dumping in the first place :) , but if I had to choose over the Radeon 64DDR, and the GF2 Pro, I would most deinately go for the Pro.
regardless of what anyone says (even me? hehe) - the V5 is a fine card in the real world for another 6 months to a year. if you're interested in winning the benchmark wars now, then you need a GF3...period.
my V5 easily runs at 183MHz using the stock HSF - w/sticky tape, not AS, or AS2.
i've "seen" posts where people get between 190 and 200 MHz replacing the stock HSF w/better performing ones.
i've "seen" posts where people oc easily up to 220MHz using water.
and finally, i recently saw a post where some guy used pelts for a whopping 250MHz oc.
I have benchmarked the V5 5500 and a GF2MX (old one not the 400) and at stock speed the v5 is the faster card. This changes when overclocked as the v5 does not clock up very much and the MX cards oc very well. When pushed to the max the MX did a little better then the V5 5500 but not by much. Now a MX isn't even close to my GF2 Ultra or my Radeon/DDR but of the 2 go with the GF card. The reason is drivers. ATI has disapionted me with there poor support and NVidia comes through as the winner in this department BIG TIME!

the pro is the faster of the two cards, however for a complete package of 2D/3D and VIVO and speed the radeon whoops up

so if i can increase the speed of my voodoo 5 will i get considerable better performance? also what r these famous HSF fans? do i have to take out the older ones and replace them with heat sinks and fans, like the cpu has?
If u guys say that i can manage to get a considerable performance out of this oldie, then i would stick to it until the radeon 8500 comes out!! well i dont wont to buy a card that is in a monopolised sector as it tends that u cannot benchmark it properly against other competitors cards, also can i where can i get a good article about watercooling my GPU?
Hey by the way i managed to obtain an overclock of 100Mhz on my p3 800EB and it is running stable this whole day! currently i am cooling the system by having the case removed and placing a huge 16 inch fan directed towards the whole system, well i think it is kind of windy in there, and also kind of noisy!
And this thing also affected the performance of my GPU, cause before i couldn't get much more than 169Mhz and now i made it goin up till 174Mhz, well im off to see how much i can get it through!!
By the way i am a voodoo fan, that is one of the reasons why i dont wont to commit myself to buy an nvidia!
I am also a voodoo fan I still have the V5 5500 in one of my machines along with a V3 3000 in my Mac. Glide just rocks it is a shame that it will not be used by future games.
But you can't argue with NVidias strong driver support and of great importance to me is their stellar Linux support
well - 'considerable better performance' is the key - i actually haven't seen a performance increase w/my eye, but benchmarks tell me i'm seeing frames faster...hehe
HSF = heatsink/fan combos - yes the same as the cpu's have, only smaller...you can get better ones at cooling sites on the web...you can also pull off the old ones and replace the thermal tape w/AS epoxy for an increase in oc ability.
lots of good info at http://www.voodoosource.net
ex-3dfx techies hang there.
