View Full Version : 1.4Ghz T-bird Vs. KT7A-RAID
Hi there everyone. I'm a newbie here. I have however been at this page many times for a little advice every now and then. Good stuff! I'm not all that knowledgable about overclocking, so please bear with me.
I currently have a KT7A-RAID Mobo, 256Mb, Geforce 2 Pro, 950mhz T-bird. Runs great at 1045mhz. (Still a little slow)
I just bought an OEM 1.4Ghz T-bird (AYHJA-Y). I cannot even get it to post. I have downloaded the newer "r" version of the bios, and the 4 in 1 Via driver. I don't know what else to do. I have even tried starting it at slower speeds, (1000mhz) No Luck PLEASE someone help!
Well,
After trying and trying to no avail. I inspected the proc very closely and found that the core is chipped. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do? I cannot return it. It's chipped on the top-right corner.
You can put some Scotch tape on top and seal the corner with clear nail polish to prevent further damage. After applying the polish, peal the tap off the core starting on the corner opposite the chipped one. Just be sure not to get any on top of the core. With only a small chip I wonder if your problems could be power supply related?
Sounds like it might be a D.O.A., dead on arrival. You might just go ahead and try RMAing it and having them send you another one. Or get ahold of AMD, they like to get broken birds back, they will usually send you a replacement. I had problems with my 1.4 for a while on my KT7AR, but that all disappeared when I flashed to 3R. What kind of cooling are you running? Birds get the hottest in the first few seconds of boot, it might not be able to handle it, or you might not be pushing enough volts. You might even think about clearing the CMOS to start clean, but I think this might mess up your raid to, dont remember... My core has a chipped corner from testing heavy HSFs but hasnt affected it to my knowledge..

I got a Duron 750 gone because of a chipped corner. They should put just a touch more protection to the precious cores.

Well, I tried all of your suggestions, but unfortunately unsuccessful. Although it did post once, only to freeze as soon as the windows screen came up. The power supply is still a possability. I have an Inwin 300Watt. do you think its because it doesn't have enough power? All I have is 1 hard drive (soon to be two) and one CD-rom. It's really not powering too much. Is it? Does anyone know what PS a 1.4 should have?
Thanks alot for the ideas guys, keep them coming I really appreciate it!
