I'm not an electronics expert or anything, but last time I checked, grounding a +12V with a +5V shouldn't work.

I am wondering if there is anybody who is an electronics expert and can tell me that doing this won't damage my fan, or power supply?

This volt mod would be great if it wasn't harmful to anything... I know running a fan at a lower voltage won't adversely affect it, but last time I checked my math, +12 plus +5 doesn't equal 7. :)

Thanks

It's not (+12) + (+5), it's (+12) - (+5). This is so since the +5 is the ground

I agree with the cow, it will not damage anything, it will only help

I'm using that mod right now, actually. Its GREAT! I can hear myself think again, and I only went up about 1 degree load.

Since you're decreasing the fan's speed, its lifetime should increase.

Who cares about the life of any of the components in your computer, most parts are going to last you at LEAST 5 years, and who isnt going to have upgraded at least ONCE in the next five years? i say, go all out for performance because the life expectancy even when running full speed is still much longer than u will have the part!
