question about athlon/duron pricing please

Greetings, why is it that a duron 800ish and a athlon 800ish cost about the same ? i am going to be building another system and if they use the same MB and cost about the same why would anyone buy a duron ?

The Duron is ALOT cheaper then the Athlon.

hmm looking at several sites this morning i see a duron 800 costing about $51 dollars and a athlon 800 costing 57 dollars...

strange... here in Norway we get a Duron for half the price of a Athlon.

Among other things, the Athlon has more cache memory which increases its overall speed.
Also, when you get into the 1 gig and higher, they use DDR memory on the chip...and it's faster!

The Duron is a great deal cheaper in the UK than an Athlon and that is why I have a Duron.

I am not aware that AMD put DDR memory on the chip and AMD certainly make no refrence to it on there website, the only information AMD provide is this quote

"AMD Athlon™ processor with a 266MHz front-side bus supporting PC2100 DDR memory technology is available at 1.4, 1.33, 1.2, 1.13, and 1.0GHz"

The Athlons which feature a 266 mhz FSB which is an internally double pumped fsb (133 x 2) have support for DDR memory and the Duron with its 200 mhz double pumped FSB (100 x 2 ) does not 'offically support DDR however it will run with DDR quite happily along with a higher than standard FSB... neither the Duron or Athlon have DDR on the chip from what I can gather.
