I am currently running a system with a radeon 9800 pro, 1 gig of 2100 ram and an amd 2000. What would give me the biggest bang for the buck? A new amd 3000 or a gig od faster ram to replace what is in there now?
Mainly I want to play Doom 3 faster, but this is not exclusively for that and I am not going to a Geforce card just for one game
Thanks
I would say upgrading the video card to an X800 (if you don't want an Nvidia card). Also your ram is not the fastest. Might pay to get faster ram and maybe even overclock the CPU a little.

Welcome to the forums!!!!!
Start out with the faster ram.... that will give you the biggest performance boost if you can set the multipler to allow you the highest fsb. You don't even have to overclock the cpu if you don't want to...... I believe your cpu runs a 1.67? 1.67 with a fsb of 200 would be much faster than a 1.67 with a fsb of 133.

I'd upgrade your processor or ram. Getting both of these will really smooth out performance for D3. I'd wait on a new video card until prices even out. For the price of a new video card you could build a new XP system.
If you've got a decent mobo you could spend 75 bucks on an XP mobile then 50 on a new HS/fan for OC later and see tangible performance with that.

my motherboard is an ABit NF7-s rev2.
So the ram is the way to go it seems? I think I will replace it with the fastest ram it will accept and go for an athlon 3000. Hopefully this will make increase performance significantly
