View Full Version : How many machines to let sit idle?
 Would like to switch some more machines over to BOINC but, can't seem to keep one unit going with WU's. Looked at the website but did'nt see anything encouraging, anybody seen or heard anything good about the lack of WU's?
Will be going out of town again and would like to start some more machines on BOINC but realy don't want them sitting idle.
They're totally shutdown again - surprise surprise
Yea, and now they say possibly for a couple of days. Well guess I'll just leave the one machine on BOINC and let the rest go back to the old seti.
With all of these problems, it makes you wonder what the Beta was for.

well as long as they aren't down for too many days, I think I'll be OK. I've got 27 WU cached and depending on the length of time per day that my machine is on, I usually do somewhere between 3 and 7 a day.

It really does. What gets me is how they knew full well that boinc would take far more physical resources than classic seti, and given they've already had equipment and bandwidth problems with classic seti, why didn't they realize they would need an even larger infrastructure in place to handle boinc? Their equipment is failing so miserably it's almost like they tried to run this on a couple of desktop pc's and a cable modem with a linksys nat box :D

I wouldn't doubt it if they did at first. Just they won't admit it.

It seems like they shut down the equipment every weekend.
LOL - I don't think they ever got out of Alpha.
We're in Alpha now - it started with Beta and it's going backwards LOL.

I don't know who's in charge over there, but they'd all have an appointment with my size 12 let me tell ya! This is just ridiculous. You'd think that scientists would have the brain power to figure this stuff out before going public...
I don't know who's in charge over there...
Maybe the problem is that they don't know either. I imagine chimps swinging from hanging ethernet cable and throwing their crap at the motherboards.

Hahahaha, the chimps! Maybe they shut down every weekend to give their desktop pc and linksys a rest ;)
