Want to set up raid

I currently have 1 74 gig wd raptor. if i were to go out and buy another could i toss it in and set it up as a raid array without having to reinstall everything again

To boot from the raid-0 array, your os would have to be installed there.

You would have to reinstall your OS because striping it spreads the data across both drives.
