View Full Version : Cloning an IDE drive to a Raid Set
is there a software that will clone a single ata drive to a sata raid (mirror) set?
i dont have a floppy drive to load raid drivers for a new XP install so i setup on a spare 20gb ide drive. i want to clone this image to the new sata raid 0 that is in my pc.
i have not needed to have a floppy in 4+ years so i dont want to buy one just for 10 seconds of use (and no one i know has one to borrow).
also i have tried norton ghost to clone the drive but it doesnt like the raid set and it fails.
ideas?
thanks

jeeze, the last few times i have asked questions they have gone with no replies. guess my problems are getting harder to solve. ill have to save the OC forums for easier questions that people can handle like "where can i buy a blue led" and the very specific and and easy to answer classic "what is the best motherboard".
im not sure what forums to visit for real computer issues but i certainly know where to go if i want to find out about clicking a few keys in the bios and wasting gobs of money to make computers run cute little games a wee tad better.
this site used to be a good resource but its become over run with sheep. the blind guiding the blind. :bang head

It might be possible to use the Maxtor utilities (I assume the drives are Maxtor since that's what's in your sig) to copy the contents of the drive to the RAID array. They can be found on the Ultimate Boot CD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/), relieving the need for you to have a floppy. I've never dealt with RAID so I can't be sure it'll work (my guess is not though), but it's worth a shot if nobody else has better ideas :D

If you take that tone when asking for help then you are going to get less replies than what you have now. Be patient rather than complaining about the lack of replies to a question that has been asked so many times already. The best reply I can give to a thread like this would be to use the SEARCH tool in the forums instead of explaining why what you want to do is a bad idea.
If you want to install RAID without a floppy use the slipstream method. Get out your drivers, windows CD, windows service pack and get ready to learn.
Follow this link (http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8892&highlight=slipstream). It has a nice guide on how to slipstream all your drivers just modify accordingly.
