I ripped off AT's chart on Doom3 card performance, and used my elite paintbrush skills to show where this BFG is scoring..

I'm highly impressed by this cards amazing performance! Also, not sure if everyone knows, but now they ship BFG's with the baddest, most coolest copper and chrome heatsink + LED's that i've ever seen on a retail card.

 Holy cow that heatsink looks sweet! My heatsink on the BFG 6800 GT looks lame compared to that. :bang head
What speeds did you get your card to overclock to?

Very nice. Not bad for a 6800GT at all. 420 | 1150 is very very nice. I have mine at 412 | 1190. I would have a better core speed but I have PNY

Ditto on that...I'm planning on getting a 6800GT eventually, I think I may have just found my brand :) Especially stacked with all the good things I hear about BFG on the boards.

Sweet, I just got my BFG 6800 GT OC less than an hour ago! I lucked out, there was one Best Buy about an hour away that had one left, and it was in a worn-down town where not many people could really afford such a thing, so I think that is how I lucked out, but damn-I'm one happy sob, I had a day off work today and I spent 3 bloody hours searching the net, calling people, checking the phonebook+online superpages... and I found a bunch of places with a couple of X800's in stock, and a few with 6800 GT's (not BFG though). Anyway, I have been using ATI cards for awhile now, so I have no clue what programs to OC Nvidia cards, could someone help me out here?

Ok heres the Scoop... BFG6800GT's originally shipped with the referenced cooler/fan on them.. BFG found that they lacked a coolness factor (hehe)... So they had a custom one designed for the 6800 series, and what you see above is it... *ALL* of the new BFG's will have this setup on them, its not limited edition. But if you have their first production run, you don't have it.
I managed to overclock it stable, to 428/1180, and got even greater scores, with some additional tweaks, I hit 13K on 3dmark2003, and hit 75FPS in Doom3 at 1600x1200, high quality. I've read that BFG only uses the top end, cream of the crop components and chips, and this seems to be true.. I also bought a eVGA 6800GT and tried to overclock and it capped out at 415/1100.. LAME.. I returned it the same day..
Temps on this overclocked idle load are 58'C, paging out of Doom3 while its running the timedemo, it spikes about another 10'C. Nothing outrageous i'd say.. lol
I bought it at Best Buy, most stores seem to have it in stock, but you really gotta bug them to find them. They are not usually on store shelves, and are either up ontop of the canopy, in the cages, or in the back room locked up. SKU for Best Buy for it is 6684652.. You can go to Bestbuy.com and look it up, and check availability in your area. Stores with black names, got em in stock. Make sure to have them check the computer when you arrive, and insist they look for it if it says they got em.. Took the clerk at my store 20 minutes to find the cards!
PS: eVGA has a 1 year warranty. BFG has a lifetime warranty. My box had no warranty card in it, so I called BFG and the guy goes "Man, you don't need one, its lifetime, we don't care when/how/where you bought it!"... Wow..

that cooler is awsome. The one on my Leadtek 6800GT is huge, but it gets the job done.

One thing to add..
The setup on the BFG, dual fans, the fans COUNTER rotate, which is simply sweet.. Blowing hot air out both sides of the card, past mad amounts of copper fins inside, and a rather large heat pipe system that works its way around. Oh, and the card seems like it weighs 2lbs, I mean its heavy, real heavy - theres a lot of copper in it.
Here...Maybe this will show you better..

nice post.. I think the BFG is the best of the GT series.. and I think the 6800 gt is the best gfx card at the mo (considering price/performace value).
I'm searching for this card for two long weeks, but it isn't available in germany (almost no 6800gts are available and if they are, they cost >480€ = >570$).
Does anyone know of a way to ship them to germany?
maybe I'll just have to wait.

Out of all of the video cards i've bought, and i've bought a ton in the last 15 years, this is the most impressive, well built, and best backed/supported one out of the lot.
The last card I had was a ATI 9800Pro and it was VERY problematic.. 3 RMA's later, I find out that they just have poor heatsinks and fans on them (have you seen how bad they are? My god, talk about cheese), and are basically defective in a few ways (I will go into it if anyone wants, but i'm tired of typing it). That was my first and last ATI purchase ever again. If you factor in lost shipping costs, and the $150 I lost on the value of the card, I probably lost a good $200 on ATI because of their defects and bad business.
I used to like eVGA, they treated me well with a Ti-4600 I had that went bad otu of warranty. But then with the 6800 series they dropped their warranties to 1 year... I'm simply stunned that a $400 product has that kind of warranty - do they lack confidence in it?
Then I found out about BFG, they are 5 hours from my house, the company is run by gamers, for gamers, and they don't play games with people.. If they keep this kind of business up, i'll be shopping with BFG for a long time to come!
wow. i've definately found my card. thanks kobra. any idea if these are in regular circulation yet or are there still a bunch of older cooler cards on the shelves?
also.. how much are they? :)
found a UK site that has the box with picture updated to the new heatsink.

seems like a few stores got a couple, and they're going like hotcakes - and you have to have them look in the back because they're not on the shelf.
thanks. now if only people would buy my stuff i have for sale i could get me one! :)

The results of this card are awesome. I've been waiting to find a 6800U but it will probably be a while before they make it to my compusa or best buy. What I'm wondering is do you guys think that it's worth getting a GT versus an Ultra. This card looks very sweet, but I've been holding off on getting an Ultra or even a 6900U whenever they come out(if they do). I'm going to go by my local Best Buy in the morning. I've got the cash on hand, what do you guys think? go with the GT or just keep waiting, it's not like I'm dying for a video card, I've got a 9800xt, I'm just wanting one of the new gen cards.

YEAH I AGREE GO WITH THE RIVATUNER .ITS A LITTLE CONFUSING WHEN YOU FRIST TRY TO GET IT TO WORK.I NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH COOLBITS EITHER THOUGH.I WOULD JUST KEEP IT ON AUTO OC AND THEN IF I THOUGHT I NEEDED MORE I WOULD JUST SET IT MY SELF.DONT USE THE AUTO DETECT.IT WOULD SET MY FX 5900 BELOW THE ADVERTISE 475 / 950 IT WOULD PUT IT AT 465 / 947.I COULD RUN IT AT 490 / 1001

I use PowerStrip, and I am OC'd at 420/1100. If I try anything more than 425 or 1150 I see artifacts here and there, so I figured 420/1100 is a safe OC.
well you know.. after thinking about it.. bfg was using these coolers on the 5900 series cards which are not as hot as these 6800s. they are just making do with the 5900 coolers til they get more 6800 coolers in.
hmph. not sure what i'll get now.

You know, it's sad really. I saw that card and thought, wow, that's sweet looking, maybe I'll get one of those instead of waiting for an Ultra. Heh, the bling is very very powerful. Glad I saw the reviews on that heatpipe setup before I made a finalized decision. I think I'll definatly be waiting for a 6800Ultra to pop up at my local Compusa. I have about a 400 buck credit from there for taking back p4p800-e deluxe boards that I had bought before anyone figured out that Antec and p4p800-e dlx boards don't like each other(at least the first revisions didn't, not sure about now)
well pny cards aren't fairing too well as far as reliability and afaik they only come with a 1 year warranty. my friend went through 3 of them before the 4th one worked properly. got them all from compusa.

I'm hoping I can get a BFG one if they ever come in. :-/
Oh yeah and the other reason why I always buy vid cards from my Compusa is for that unlimited two year warranty. It's saved me quite a bit of money on video cards in the past....The Great Milk Incident of 2004
I was wondering if coolbits is the same thing that I've been using to oc all of my nvidia cards. I've always used xteq to unlock the oc utility in the nvidia drivers. Is this the same thing as coolbits?

I may be wrong, but I don't believe that CompUSA is listed as one of the retailers for the BFG 6800 cards.
As far as brick'n'morter stores go, I think BFG 6800's are only available at BestBuy and Fry's.
Here's the BFG Where to Buy page

I think your right. So far they have only gotten in the PNY cards. But I bought my BFG 5950U from there, which they started carrying a few months after they had become readily available. And if I have to use PNY to get that warranty then I might just do that. It's worth it to me as far as video cards go because I tend to be accident prone, and I've completely ruined a computer twice. One time by accidently spilling milk through my exhaust fans on top of my server, and one time by dropping one while trying to maneuver around some stuff going down some stairs. Clumsy me. Anyway with one of the computers I had everything covered at CompUSA(It was the first computer I ever built so I went with all loca retail) and I took a pretty good loss on the other one.

I've checked all the only sites for these cards, and all of them are still using the same graphic for the box. So, I wouldn't base whether or not its a second run based on the graphic on the web page.
In fact, the graphic is always the same size, and look. I'd guess they all got it from the same source.
Btw, pardon my ignorance, but what's a VGA silencer (haven't oc'd a vid card yet)?
SilverJag
08-13-04, 12:01 PM
VGA Silencer is a product that cools video cards. It has a heatsink made of copper/aluminum and is chilled by a fan. It is one of the best, if not the best GPU cooler available. Some versions of VGA Silencer MAY cool ramsinks as well. If you overclock and want better temps. this is for you.
