I had to do a reinstall of Windows ME and afterwards I couldn't save jpegs or gifs as anything but a bmp! It always comes up as "untitled" bitmap, is there a way I can change the way explorer saving?

If you're in MS Paint, that's why.

What? Paint isn't open, and I use ACDSee as my image browser, and photoshop 6 to edit. I can't even change the type in the "save as" box, bmp is my only option.

I believe that there is a registry edit that can change the default name ("Untitled"), but if you are only using MS Paint, you're stuck with bitmaps.
The registry edit will change the defaults for MS Paint - not give you the ablility to rename files - to do that you need to either rename each file individually, or when you "Save As" highlight the name, delete it, and type in what you prefer.

i had the same problem, and i kinda fixed it by right clicking on the file and told it to open with every time (internet explorer) for jpegs, but it only got back to 100% normal after i had to reinstall again. Bes bet is to go to 2000(like it told u before) LOL

There are small programs you can download to change the file type of progs. I had this problem but didn't want to reinstall again, so I did a search for a way to convert bmp to jpg. There's a shareware program at www.maxoutput.com that did the trick for me.

I have like 3 different programs that can convert, just that that's a pain in my a55...ignoring the problem for right now, I'll see if that site has anything I could use, otherwise it's searching through the registry...
