View Full Version : WTF!!! +3.3V rail reading at 2.8V !!!

Even with my Antec True 430 430W power supply, I started getting the following symptom after going from an Athlon XP T-bred 2000+ to an Athlon XP T-bred 2400+ and from 256 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM to 512 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM on August 3:

The +3.3V rail reading goes no higher than 3.25V and I saw the +3.3V rail reading drop to 2.8V on me!!!

Why on earth would only the +3.3V rail be affected?

I would think more realistically that I would be seeing the +12V rail drop majorly on me, first after the processor and RAM upgrade if they were using more power. NOT the +3.3V rail!!! I thought only older motherboards would be pulling it's main power off of the +3.3V rail.

OMG!!! Please don't tell me to get a 550W power supply!!! I'm completely broke and I seen other people on the internet using an Antec True 430 430W power supply with no problems. :bang head

Make sure your powersupply isnt overheating or anything. Its prolly just a craptastic ps and you might need a new one. a 350watt fortron will doa llot better than the peice of crap you have now. They arent very expensive either they are like 40 bucks at newegg or something like that.

Why would it be craptastic? Fortron power supplies are not available where I am. Obviously, you just care about the power supplies that are hard to find, like finding a needle in a haystack, thus you're no help:temper:  . Antec power supplies are good.

NO way its the PS. I think it must be the plug you connect to your mobo not sitting properly or some power cable making bad contact.
at 2.8V your machine should also restart whne under load...

maybe use a multimeter to check up on your rails.

are the other voltages OK.

(1000 post today for me)

They arent very good compared to fortrons or PC power and cooling, but they are acceptable as long as you arent doing some overclocking. BTW ANY power supply can go bad. Ive had 2 enermaxs die on me already ><. You just might have gotten a bad ps. See if you can RMA it and get a new one.

BTW, my PC was Prime95 stable when running Prime95 for at least 2 hours.

I believe Prime95 would have failed or just end up crashing Windows in less than
15 minutes if my power supply isn't enough.

Closing thread since there's a new one for this. PM me if you need it opened up, no problem if you do.
