any XMMS gurus out there???

heres the problema. whenever i try to play a .wav or.mp3 file, xmms will not open just by clicking on the file. in fact, the only way i can run xmms
is from the run window or the terminal window. i added all the plugins associated with xmms in rpm software, went into konqueror and set xmms as the default media player for those types of files and what not.
ive even reinstalled mandrake 8.0 but this just keeps happening. my Sblive value is fine by the way too. its gotta be something simple!!!!!!
im getting really frustrated with this and i really dont like the way kde media player works. it barely does as it is. any ideas??? im dying to fix this. thanx

It can be configured in konqueror it has been a while since I have done this but if I remember right it was called mime types. I to use XMMS it has about the best sound quality of any linux mp3 player. I will take a look in konqueror when I get home from work tonight and see if I remember the exact procedure.
