i have near unlimited acess to another connection, other than my own, but not at home. Its faster than my own, and is on a computer that i can acess at home via pcanywhere.

I was wondering how i could set up a download application so that i could download 35% here, and the rest at another location. The other location uses a cable based connection, and is probably twice as fast as mine, if not more...and i visit often enough to burn data to a cd rw regularly.

Would this be possible to split, or will i be running some downloads here and others there?

If its not possible, is it possible to initiare a download from a server to a computer, using the computers IP address? (no router, static ip from isp)

thanks.

Just download to the other computer.

There's no way to split it that would be effective, just download on the remote computer.

Sneakernet is by far the fastest consumer method of transfering data over short distances, but if you want, you can set up an FTP server and download it from that box remotely, but that will only be as fast as the remote box's upload speed, which usually isn't great.
