I just bought the Logitech Z-5300 set and I'm wondering if I need a new soundcard to go with them. Right now I use the onboard sound of the board in stereo. I know the board has digital out, but I can't find how many channels it supports etc.

Do I need to buy a new soundcard or will the onboard digital out do me fine?

Thanks!

Try out the onboard digital out. It should be 6.1 Sound if I remember correctly [...]

Sorry,Tebore, but you're wrong.

BleemZ: On the P4P800-E Deluxe mainboard you find a Realtek ALC850 8-Channel CODEC.
Let's have a look at the (Realtek )-HP:

ALC850

Features

* Meets performance requirements for audio on PC99/2001 systems
* Meets Microsoft WHQL/WLP 2.0 audio requirements
* Eight-channel DA converter (48KHz)
* Stereo AD converter (48KHz)
....
....

Last point shows the problem: STEREO AD CONVERTER.
So there will be no 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 sound on digital out - only stereo.
I don't know the reason but it seems to me a bad decision for cheaper chipsets.

edit: I got the same mainboard and tried a long time to get more than stereo sound. All experiments with the same result: STEREO!

That's a really stupid thing to have. I guess I got spoiled by SoundStorm.
