hi im buying new ram.and im really confused why corsair made 2 kinds of the 1gig kit xms3200xl .i see at newegg the platinum sticks that hit 2-2-2-5 atddr400 for 285.00+tax and the black sticks for 282.00+tax.are they exactly the same thing or is there something else.i have currently some geil value ram.and its running great .and i have some xms2700512mbcas2 ram on my other first system.and now building my third pc .im not gonna overclock the ram .but later on i want to.first i want to get everything running up and workin.wit amd2600m abit nf7s mobo.msi9800pro.audigyzs.now it needs ram.and i got the 300 som odds to buy ram.or buy 1 stick of xms and buy some new skates.

What is the revision on the XMS stick you have now? It should be in the upper right corner of the sticker.

I would imagne there is no difference between the two, so I'd go with the cheaper one unless one looks better than the other.

Weird because I thought the xms2700 was black and the xms3200 was silver... I have twin x kits of both and thats how they came. Of course they could have changed the heatspreaders since I got these over a year ago.

That being the case I'd just buy the cheaper unless there is some difference in the warranty or timings...do they specify maybe if one uses a particular type of chips or anything? mebbe one matches yer decor better or something too

mm hold on hold.on thanks for the help. mm the revision on the xms2700 .v1.2 cas2 ram. yeah mm i think imma just buy the black sticks. i really dont want platinum sticks.well thanks for your help.

oh yeah both have cas settings of 2-2-2-5 .the black sticks are cmx1024-3200xl and the platinum sticks are cms1024-3200xlpt or so. oh same warranty

Congrads, your pc2700 stick has the legenary BH-6 chips on it. Search "BH-6" in this forum more more info.

Somebody got messed up somewhere...Corsair XL serie is only available in PC3200 right now and the difference between the black and silver heatspreader is...

that the heatspreader is either black or silver...otherwise they are identical, it's only an issue of what color you want your ram.

ok thank you all. i cant believe i couldnt decide on that last month. hahaha thanks all. really bh6 hell nah !foreals! imma search em up.mmm no my epox 8rda3+ i got em to 212 2-3-3-6 2.77vdimm. though i was using a desktop 2500+.i couldnt go far .i didnt up my cpu voltage much becuz of cooling issues on 1.75vcore. so mmm i havent been back here in a long while.so now that im been rolling on my new mobile setup. i put away my epox box.i dont got a video card in it or i would have used it for folding. thanks for the info.

ha ha. they are exactly the same thing. i orded one from ncix and my xlpt was less expensive than the normal xl. i guess it really just comes down to black or silver? both the spreaders suck anyway, i would replace them with some real cooling since i bet these tccd babies are going to really make me happy. I dont know. the platinum heatspreaders look VERY cheap to me. when i got the dimm, it was in this huge box and weighed liek nothing... almost made me think they didnt pack the ram ha ha. but this was only compared to what my ocz el platinum sticks were like. those were so beastly.
