I currently am running my system at 195x11 and am trying to find the optimal timings for my memory. Currently the mem is at 2.5-3-3-8 and my system seems to be pretty stable (I run a nforce2 mobo).

I know that my CPU will overclock to at least 2.37ghz, which is 215x11; but my memory will not post at 215mhz! I have not tried to up the voltage any, I am still at 2.6... I am kind of worried I will fry my RAM. The highest I have gotten my RAM to post and boot at was at 205mhz FSB.. but it wasnt too stable (artifacts, tears.. etc).

Could heat be an issue here or is it that my RAM has reached its mark?

Input would be appreciated!

Increasing the voltage on an unmodded board will not hurt those sticks any. In the unlikely event they start to feel warm, direct a fan at them. The increased voltage will improve the ram's stability and allow it to clock higher, if it has the potential to. It will only provide stability, not actually increase the ram's max speed. Once it reaches its limit, no amount of additional voltage will allow it to clock higher.

You probably won't get a lot higher with samsung PC2700. A while ago it was considered a good overclocker, but it's a little dated now. Mine will do a little over 200MHz stable, and stops posting a little over 210.

its probably the pc2700. although some samsung pc2700 will run like a bat outta h#ll. do u have the serial numbers of the chips???

oh yeah welcome to the forums... :attn:

Heres what Sandra says...

Memory Module(s)
Memory Module 1 : Samsung M3 68L6423DTM-CB3 450F879E 512MB 16x(32Mx8) DDR-SDRAM PC2700U-2533-700 (CL2.5 up to 167MHz) (CL2 up to 133MHz)
Memory Module 2 : Samsung M3 68L6423DTM-CB3 0810079A 512MB 16x(32Mx8) DDR-SDRAM PC2700U-2533-700 (CL2.5 up to 167MHz) (CL2 up to 133MHz)

My pc2700 2x256mb samsung sticks will do 224mhz using 3.3v @ 2.5-2-2-11 timmings of my Abit NF7-S rev 2.0. Duel channle btw also

Just up the voltage to its max it isnt ganan hurt the memory samsung loves voltage

Don't make fun of those old Sammy PC2700s, I think TCCBs. They were the first ram in the world to break DDR400 at 2-2-2-5 back in I dunno, 2001?. Needed 3.1 VDIMM at the time.

The ICs were actually used in ram as late as the OCZ PC3700 Golds Rev. 1.0, binned and shaved to improve heat dissipation. They did DDR466, 2-3-3-7 @ 2.75 volts on that ram. OCZ really did their homework to get the ICs to do that.

I still have my 2x256 Sammy PC2700, same manufacture date that did the historic DDR400, 2-2-2-5. I've run it at 215, 2.5-3-3-6 @ 2.8 volts on the NF7-S (DC), really not bad for ram made eons ago. As others have shown, if you feed it more volts on a voltmodded board it might do higher. Since your sticks are 2x512 MB that is the best you can expect from them. Try more VDIMM, like 2.8 VDIMM.

Here are the markings on the chip:

Samsung 250
K4H5609390-TCB3

I might now also be having heat problems...

CPU Diode @ idle is around 41-44C using my current config...
Case sensor is around 28C

I might go pick up some AS5 and redo my shady thermal application on my heatsink.

That's a week 50 of 2002. My landmark sticks are 244s. Gee, that wasn't too long ago that ram first broke DDR400 at 2-2-2-5. Doing that back then was like ram now doing DDR600 at 2-2-2-5!

I have Samsung TCB3's. It reads 208 on the chip, and the best i got out of them was 208FSB, heh. They were pretty good. I was amazed that some cheapo $45 sticks of ram could make it to PC3200 speeds @ 7-3-3-2.5.

Actually I stand corrected, mine are 0208 too, CTLs. I believe that was the first ICs to do DDR400, 2-2-2-5. Around 0219 or so the quality of the ICs started to degrade, and then the DTL sticks came out. Man, I remember the hysteria over them at Newegg. Many guys were disappointed when the CTLs were discontinued. Like today, the later steps actually got worse.

You guys forget it wasnt the ram that was holding things back it was the motherboards. Kt333 boards or KT400 board rarely were able to reach DDR400.

My A7V333 crapped out @ 178fsb while my ram will do 224 @ 2.5-2-2-11 in my nforce 2 board. Now its diff. The ram is holding me board backs. Alot of board can do 300mhz or fsb in latent terms pretty easily

cooled off

Now after my Artic Silver I am idling at 29-33 under current config... going to test my max memory out now!
