I don't know who to talk to, but can someone open a new forum under Overclockers' Teams? I am part of the Overclockers.com Predictor@Home Team and came on the forum to talk to fellow members, just to find out that everyone is on the Folding@Home team. I didn't even know it exsisted, but with several computers running the BOINC software right now, and being third in our team over there currently, why switch now?

Predictor also does protein research which being a previous SETI client, I felt finding cures to medical diseases, was more worth my computers' time than trying to find aliens.

I just want to say seeing the Overclockers strong position near the top of Folding@Home, makes me proud, but the team at Predictor of 16 people is steadily falling off the Top Teams list. When I joined we were #22, and being beat by a team of NINE people, tonight I checked and we are now #24.

So if someone can tell me who I have to talk to or if a mod can help me, to start another team thread in the forums for Predictor@Home, maybe it would bring us some more support or at least a place for some of us to talk about BOINC.

Thank You,
Steve

Welcome to the Forums!

What is Predictor and Boinc? I never heard of it.

I think this idea fell through because we're already stretched too far when most other forums only concentrate their efforts on ONE project, we're doing two right now. Alot of people think that adding a third into the mix would take away from the teams we already have established...

Thats the homepage for the project.

I understand that a lot of work and time is invested by many to the Folding@Home, especially with the Adopt a Rig program.

The predictor project is still alpha, many bugs and server being down, but very current on news to keep you informed. The bottom line being they are still doing research for a good cause. And in my opinion I like the BOINC client that runs predictor and seti projects, becuase of the new scoring system. You sign on to Folding@Home, and see the hundreds of people who have been on for years, you will never have a chance to compare to them in stats. However, with BOINC, your total credit is kept score but your actual rank is based on how much average credit you can achieve. So if you have one or more fast computers, you will get your credit do and move up the ranks quickly, instead of sitting at the bottom.

I will honestly check this out. However I don't seem to recall sitting @ the bottom long*snikers* let me look into this and if you can get a mod to make a new foum for you I will pop in and ask my questions.

Predictor is another folding program similar to stanfords, BOINC is the replacement of SETI

FizzledFiend did you find anything out that you were going to look into? The predictor team has fallen to #37 now. We need help badly, this is my last cry out. And about what someone said about stretching resources, the other team I used to be on, who has just passed overclockers.com. They have about 8 DC projects they work on. I know I am new to these forums as a registered user, but am long time enthusiast of the overclockers.com site, has been a huge help to me. That is why I chose this team to be on and I want to stick with it. But if we fall off the top teams list I will have to leave this team. I am currently #2 in the team but that score doesnt matter to me I rather see the team as a whole be doing better.

I admire your enthusiasum(sp) and commetment towards your chosen DC. However I dont think a team of 16 members will be enough to warrent a new team page here at OCforums. I hate to sound pessimistic but the facts speak for themselfs. Right now your in a catch 22 position. P@H being a fairly new DC and with the problems they have been having its hard to get much attention let alone new members. On a more opptomistic note, I'm sure the P@H project will grow and in time warrent such reccognition in the future. Keep plugging along and your efforts will be rewarded. I mean who knows, perhaps P@H will have a break thru discovery and ppl will flock to site and start crunching.

This assumes one folds only for the stats.

Bingo. Fold for the cure!

So in striving to fold for stats, meaning one is pumping out as many units as possible.....meaning your computer(s) are working hard away at crunching these numbers....I am no longer looking for a cure? My computers are looking for the cure I can't, all I can do is run the client as much as possible, tell as many friends as possible, and to make things more interesting the stats help motivate a buzz about the program. And if you were reading so much into my words that you want to quote me on that than quote me on this:

"Predictor also does protein research which being a previous SETI client, I felt finding cures to medical diseases, was more worth my computers' time than trying to find aliens." -- My first post in this thread

Also lets take an example from REAL LIFE, fundraisers and the such. Like golf tournaments that raise money for say the kidney foundation, or a school fundraiser selling candy bars. You say there is no competion still involved in those, yea they are doing it for the right cause, but that competion or entertainment is what draws people more into a cause than what they would normally do.

Why are there teams? Why are there stats and rankings? TOP TEAMS TOP USERS, every DC page I've seen.

I am here for the cure but are most of you? Because what does forming another board gonna hurt? Take from folding@home and give to predictor@home? Because both are for cures, but I guess your cure is more important, maybe there are a few people checking these boards who have never joined DC, want some options besides FH and SETI. And so what if there is only 16 of us, all of a sudden 16 people don't matter? I personally have 8 computers running the client, and that is 6 different people who agreed that searching for a cure was something they did not mind their computer doing. Just that we are all on the same account otherwise we would have 22 members, not to mention if anyone else on the team has multi computers running the client.

Anyway as I can tell from the attitude around here (except for a few open minded individuals) all most care about is this team and its stats, even if it means to squander all your resources for that motive. All I asked for was who do I talk to for a new fourm thread, and instead of trying to help me which would help the 16 (not enough to be worth anything) of us on OUR overclockers.com team (not like I am asking you to help promote overclockers.uk) all i get is basically that we aren't worth consideration, that another university doing the same research but in alpha state, so they could use the testers to help work out the bugs, thats not worth it either. And despite my feelings that I switched to predictor becuase I rather crunch a tangible worthwhile project instead of little green men, I am ONLY doing it for the numbers. The numbers is for the pride of our team just as you all enjoy being one of the top teams in FH, rather than #600. Thanks for the help anyway......I mean criticism.

jadecamaro,in your defense,I feel that quote was taken out of context.
Having the ability to see rank simply lets you know exactly what you have aceived.
Without ranks or points it would seem less proactive not knowing what is going on while your pc crunches away.

Have they changed the scoring "validation" yet?
