I just recently "fried" my A64 and MB, although now I'm not so sure. Here's what happened.

I was testing the ASUS motherboard for a specific feature that I needed for a hobby of mine (onlne racing) and it didn't work out as I had planned. So I took it out and put the ABIT back in, only to find that when I turned on the comp, or tired, it would power on for about 1 second then shut off, followed by 1 long beep and 1 short beep. So I tried the ASUS, and got nothing, swapped out RAM, nothing, and even tried a spare PSU, same stuff. So I figured ok the CPU is dead, but I will RMA all the stuff to be sure. So in the middle of this, I get this awesome idea that I will make all my wires kickass and neat. So like 2 hours later I get stuff how I want it, only problem is that my fan controller is a bit tricky to connect (Vantec). So I bring out an old motherboard that was acting up, and figure ok I will use this to get my wires and stuff straight for the fan controller. NOT. MB lights up just like the ABIT did, but no power. Seeing how the MB was junk anyway I just said, ok I will try the other PSU. ALIVE was my tornado as it flew off my case, but my question is, do I need to get a new PSU? The lights on the MB come up, except 4 (on the old MB) but on the other PSU they light up. Does Antec have like a circuit that if nothing is connected it won't work (yeah right). Any help on this will be greatly appreciated, and if need be I will buy a 510 Deluxe and be done with it.

It could be 2 things:

A) the mobo is shorting out in the case somewhere;
Try installing the bare minimum, ie; Cpu,hsf, 1-stick of ram,VC, and have the mobo oustide the case on a table.

B) The psu could be having issues/dying out. My enermax 465w would do that. I would shut off my pc( dualie), reboot. I would get lights, but no power. i swapped psu's and the problem disappeared.

Just a thought but you do have the 20 pin power connector and the 4 pin connector hooked to the MOBO right? If you don't hook the 4 pin power connector up you will get similar results to what you describe.

Yeah I think its the PSU, yet another RMA back to Antec, I will not use their stuff anymore.
