View Full Version : newbie overclocker
hi all...ok got crap for equipment..new stuff is on the way...my crap consists of celeron 466...pc100/m741lmrt/slot1/soket370...nothin special...i wanna overclock this baby..i tried setting the 100 bus jumper pin so as it would read the bus speed as 100..i got a blank screen...so how do i over clock this baby and what kind of performance can i get???

A Celeron 466's internal multiplier is locked at 7. Which means If you gave it a 100 FSB, it'd be running at 700. Which, in turn, would be a real sweet deal, I'd admit, but a 466 just won't do it without peltiers or another kind of supercooler. At that speed, and in turn the voltage it would take to run that speed, it would be a veritable blast furnace.
If your motherboard has a setting for 75MHz, you could possibly pull 525 out of it, but you're probably still going to need to bump the core voltage up a little. If you don't know how to do this, you're going to have to do a bit of reading in your motherboard manual. Whether or not your motherboard has voltage controls is unknown to me, but it's essential to getting a stable overclock. So, it's in your best interest to get ahold of a really nice heat sink/fan combo.

At this point I would read through the tips section and get yourself a good background and your PC will be much happier.
you dont want to raise your CV [corevoltage to cpu] unless you have better then stock cooling, you may be able to go up a little but not much or you could turn your CPU into toast. Check the CPU database out and see how others are doing with your CPU. The Flying Rat is rite try to raise FSB up a little at time if you can let us know how your doing or if you run into any problems we'll be glad to help.

this motherboard is essentially an e machine..yes garbage...everything is onboard..there is no voltage setting etc...my bios gives me the multiplier option..which doesn't seem to do the job...i heard there is a utility program for windows for overclocking the fsb... im actually looking for this deal..if anyone knows where i can get it...i can set my multilpier for a 66 mhz bus to...x4-x7.5...
