ive had the intellimouse explorer 3.0 for a while now, and i like it, but i dont have much to compare it to (it was my first optical mouse). ive recently been thinking of getting a logitech mx510, as i heard its outstanding for games, especially fast past fps's, which is what it would come in handy for. anyway, is it worth it? it is no doubt a better mouse, but is it better enough to warrant a new purchase, or is mine good enough for now? thanx!

well your 3.0 is a damn good mouse already, i dont think you would see that big of yup in performance, but if you like the looks and the performance, by all means get it! thats what i am going to get!

the looks i frankly couldnt really care less about. if it is a noticable preformance increase however, it might be worth it. is it worth the $40 pricetag when i already got the 3.0?

how much do you value twitch gaming? how much do you value high reflex response?

3.0 is good enough
MX510 weight = IE3.0 with 2 AA batteries
the only good point is that the mouse feet is teflon but it will wear out eventually

I recommend you to get a great mousepad and some teflon mousefeet

I just got an mx510 and i am liking it a lot, its quite a bit of performance increase from my old mouse, but it was an optical. The best thing is it only cost me 30 dollars canadian.

You can always open up the mouse and remove the metal weight inside. I did and it definitely feels less heavy, equal to any mouse I've tried.

However, if you have the new Intellimouse Explorer, I would just keep it. Honestly, I probably would have went with this if it wasn't so expensive (I got the MX510 very cheaply).

If you have the 3.0 keep it, The ligitechs are bad for gamers IMO, see with the ligitechs the way your hand holds it , you press down with the 1st joint from the top of your pointer finger and the 3.0 you press down with the tip of your finger, I think and know pressing down with the tip is faster stronger and more efficient when playing a FSP

Agree somewhat with this. With the MX510, I'm still getting used to the way it feels compared to a regular mouse, and I think it will still take me a bit of time before I'm completely used to it. With the Intellimouse Explorer (someone at my work has it), there was no problem at all and I could use it easily without issue.

I just went from an explorer 3.x to an MX510, and I can notice the difference right off the bat.

For games like UT2004, bf1942 (the precision control is VERY nice for planes and choppers in DC), half life mods, ect. I find the Mx510 to be MUCH nicer.

That's just me though :)

I would have to agree with him. I switched from an Intellimouse to a MX510(corded version tho) and the differance is amazing. This thing is so much more accurate and reliable. It has plenty of buttons to configure any game, I mostly play FPS, and my game improved with this mouse. I dont even have to use a mousepad with this sucker. I recommend it!

I prefer my M$ basic optical mouse over my friend's MX310. Perhaps its just his pc, but the mouse seems to lag a bit. My mouse always does EXACTLY what I want. I dont know if this is relevant in your case, but I thought I would pitch in my 2 cents.

I moved from a 5 button intellimouse to my logitech mx510 and i am in love. whoever said this mouse is not for gamers is dead wrong. the precision and sensitivity levels on this thing are INSANE. You don't have to push the buttons with the first joint of your finger either, the way it's set up any part of the front of the mouse that you push down on will trigger the button. I love this mouse!

I say keep the intellimouse. I have the desktop elite keyboard that came bundled with the intellimouse 2.0 and I find its a great mouse myself. I would think the 3.0 would only be better or similar).

I had the same mouse and upgraded, and love it. After a day or two to get used to the new shape, I actually like it alot better. Its much smoother and faster. I might try removing the weight now though.

You have any linkage on how to open up the 510?

I just recieved the mx500 that I won on ebay for $22.50 shipped.

I am VERY pleased with it but then again im moving from an intellimouse explorer 1.1

If you don't have $45-50 to spend on an MX510, the MX500 for $25 is a great deal.

Not really so much of a guide, but it shows where the weight is.

To remove the weight you have to peel back the labels on the bottom exposing the screws, unscrew and open the mouse, unscrew and remove the weight inside and reassemble it.
The only thing to be careful about is that a spring connected to the mousewheel tends to fall out quite easily, but the rest is straight-forward.
