Hi everyone....i just wanna ask a few questions...
What are ramsinks??...
and i always hear people say Lapping?? what does this term actually mean....
I put it in this part of the forum because I hear it most in here. Thx for all your time and help...
I'm assuming when people say ramsinks, they normally mean heatsinks that are attached to ram, such as the Thermaltake Memory Module Heat Spreaders (available from a variety of online vendors, such as SVCompucycle to name one). Lapping is simply sanding something (most notably a heat sink, peltier, or water-cooling block) to get a near-mirror finish. I accomplish this with wet-dry sanding paper. First 300 grit to take out all the rough marks, then 600 to remove the 300's scratches, then 800, then 1000. I refuse to go higher than 1000, though many people have been known to go up to 1500. I could see the reflection in my MC462 when I used 1000, but I suppose that's entirely up to you. Hope that helps.

Sanding which part of the heatsink??...thx...
Oh, my apologies. Sanding the bottom part of the heatsink. The part that makes contact with the core of the CPU. Sorry about that.

There's 2 ways to effectively attach RAMsinks. 1 is with thermal epoxy, such as Arctic Silver Thermal Compound. 2 is by spreading thermal compound over the entire top of a RAM chip, except about 2mm around each corner. Put a tiny, TINY bit of krazy glue, or super glue on each corner, and hold the RAMsink on for a minute.
So called "Frag Tape" doesn't really stick all that well, and when any, ANY adhesive that remains wet (I.E., tapes) get hot, they loose their adhesivness.
Beware when attaching RAMsinks, you dont want your adhesive of choice squishing out over the sides shorting out the RAM chip's contacts. The key word is minimal use, you dont want a thick ammount of compound anyway, that makes it less effective.

You mean sanding the part that you suppose to put thermal grease??...
Do you know where there is a picture of someone attaching a heatsink with their ram??...cuz i don't really understand how to do it after your explanation...sorry...
I know WildAndy has some pics of him using ThermalTakes on his web site. Those are at www.wildandyc.co.uk . From there you go into the articles section, and you should be able to find it from there.
