I picked up an ac unit and I still haven't begun working on it. The condensor is majorly screwed up so i really don't want to use it. So ihave been thinking lately and I have been inspired, recently there was a thread in wcooling about a bong evaporative cooling so I am thinking why cant this be done with exctreme cooling? my plan is to replace the condensor with about 15 feet or copper tubing then put this tubing on the bottom of a wc bong and have the hot water evaporate thus cooling it or if I wanted to get crazy I could have a showerhead spray the coils and have outlets on top to allow the steam to come off. This way I would only need pvc, showerhead, copper tubing (already have it), some plastic tubing and a water pump and possibly a mineral filter. What do you guys think?

Ok, I got 5' of 4" dia pvc, 4" "Y" thingamagigger, and One 4" endcap. Im going to go to work on this baby.

On the cheap, this would work great.

If you can solder fins onto the tubing, that will make it even more effective.

Would you just have the water cycling and falling on the tubing? I would think it would be more effective to make a heat-exchanger to wrap around the tubing, or a heat-jacket for the condenser. a shower head is a nesscesity in any bong (for effective cooling at least).

If you put the condenser inside a small plastic box close to the dimensions of the condensener, that water could be chilled with the bong too.

Dont know if this answered you or not, but it seems like a good idea

Here is a website that might be usefull.

According to tables, where you are, you just might get 10 degrees cooler than ambient on average throughout the day. If I didnt live in such a humid climate myself, I would have to try this.

I have decided I will use a cooling method similar to the cooling systems in nuclear powerplants but of course on a smaller scale and rather than water that is passing over the uranium/processor I will use refridgerant. I will have a compressor with the cold side on my processor, the hot side in a heatexchanger, water being pumped through the heatexchanger then being misted into my bong. I assume this should be fairly efficent since I may possibly get subambient temperatures of my water via the bong which simple fins could never reach. I have two problems though; 1. The bong is really huge, would it be safe to mount it outside? so long as I put a mesh ontop and a little roof thing to prevent rain and bird doo doo from getting in? and 2. If I put it outside should I put an automatic valve on it? so that if it gets below x inches it will begin to fill it up again either via a resorvoir or via the water main just like how toilets do.

Edit: I will try to provide an extremely detailed photodiary.

Although it would likely work fine, I'm not sure you will get a benefit out of this...
