i don't think there is a best one as they all do the exact same thing. i've tried a lot when i used to use IE. flashget was the preferred one cause it didn't have banners and stupid ads like the others. firefox has it's own manager which is what i've been using for the past year or so.

I've used download accelertor plus alot... when registered it doesn't have banners and it also will search for mirrors automatically and download from the quickest responding one. You can also set it up to automatically scan your downloaded files with an anti-virus program you hopefully have installed. I like it alot.

I second Flash Get it has been the best for me and feels like it has better options.
http://www.amazesoft.com/ it dose have spy ware on the free one but the paid one is clean and adaware keeps it clean anyways.
