View Full Version : What's everyone think of Netscape 6.1?

I downloaded it last night and installed it for the heck of it as I always do when a new version comes out. It's usually gone within a couple of days.

I may actually keep this one around though. Can't speak for everyone and every OS but it seems quite quick and I like the interface although it's much like 6.0 if not exactly (I don't remember 6.0 much).

After I got it configured to my liking I've been using it as my primary browser although eventually I'll probably go back to IE. Doesn't seem to have any problems so far. I did notice one bug, however. When attempting to download an attachment from a thread in here in the .ZIP format it downloaded the .PHP directive instead. No way around it as I tried everything. Had to go back to IE to get the file. There's probably a way to fix that but I haven't had the time to fool with it much.

Overall I kind've like the new 6.1. Just interested in what others think of it that HAVE tried this version.

I use Netscape in Linux. I went from using ver6 to Mozilla. I didn't dl 6.1 because it is described as addware. I am curious were there any add banners it 6.1? Mozilla is freeware and I guess the best way to describe it is as a beta version of what the next Netscape will be. It is gennerally more advanced then Netscape.

I agree with ken257's sentiment. Mozilla .9.3, is a "better" release.

I've used Mozilla quite a bit, especially in Linux, and must say they've come quite a way. Hats off to the Mozilla team.

I do look forward to their eventual Mozilla 1.0 release.

No banners that I have seen.

I also agree with you two on Mozilla. Basically Netscape without the crap. I didn't like the addition of AIM on it as I hate the MSIM as well.

I did just have a couple crashes in this browser so I'm uninstalling now...might go grab the newest Mozilla afterwards as I haven't tried it in 3-4 months.

It crashes less than 6.0, but more than I like. That's why I don't use it even in Linux. I use Opera in Linux.

Opera is rad. Always did like that browser. Haven't used it since the 3.X versions though.

I'm not big on Nutscrape. I have a copy installed on my machine just to check the websites that I create and make sure they look ok, but I have like 4.7.

I was going to get 6.1 just to keep up to date. One of the local internet providers (shameless plug coming.....) Nut-n-but.net (get it, nothing but Net)...I have a few buddies there. They all told me the same thing....avoid it like the plague.

They've been right on all the other Nutscrape questions that I ask them....but hey, they run Macs for all their servers.....
