Well, the only car dyou can get for $150 form nvidia is an fx. SOME FX 5700's oc like beasts though. I am pretty sure you can get a radeon 9800 non-pro for around $150 dollars, which is better than an fx5700.
The vanilla 6600 is supposed to be 150$, you could also save up and get the 6600GT for another 50 bucks. They're going to be out near the end of this month or sometime next month. Worth the wait if you ask me.

If that price range is firm, then either a 5700Ultra or a 9600XT. If he can spend another $25, then he could grab a 5900XT or maybe a 9800 series.
Saw a few 9600xt floating around somewhere for $130-140. Check out either www.excaliberPC.com or www.newegg.com.

Hehe since you brang that up I mite buy myself one I like the price. :D
You can get a 5900NU from newegg here:

its $160 and much better than the 9600xt IMHO. The question did specificly ask for an NV card correct?
I got my BFG5900XT for 150 from BB, although they jacked the prices back up. I love this card, it's probably the "smartest" vid card buy I've ever made. Seriously it is hard to shop for a midrange card and come out feeling like you got a good deal. It's a lot easier buying the most expensive, well your wallet cry's afterwards though :( Anyway if you can find a 5900XT for less than 180 I would jump on it over a 9600xt anyday.
Like OMG :attn:

OT: Kindred, your mem score is awesome. I can't get mine past 766, but I can run my core all the way up to 520 and pass the test with it, although I run it at 490 for everyday use. I wish I could get it as high as you on the mem. I went from 5701 3dmark03 up to 6114 when oc'ed to 490/760.

Thanks! What would you say if I told you those are just lax settings? The memory can handle 875 without artifacts. I got lucky with the memory chips. One thing I never liked about the 5900XT's is all the diversity from the different card manufacturers. Some companies had 2.2ns chips while others had 2.8ns chips...even the same cards from the same manufacturer could be different. I never tried the core past 510. I got cold sweats when I thought about going beyond that. I left the speeds as they are just to be conservative. Since then I've installed a new heatsink/fan with AS5. I think it's about time for another test run. :D

Yeah it has to be said that the 5900XT is a solid performer. I went over budget buying mine, and I haven't regretted it since. It's only cash, once it's paid for....
Save a little more cash up and get the card you really want. :)

Ummm... awesome? ;) The XFX card in sex on PCB.

Except that these are initially PCI-Express cards which would require a new mobo.
and quite a bit of time. The 6600's havent been released to reviewers yet and then a while till they hit the market.
