I just got my BFG 6800 Ultra, and im wondering if I should replace the stock thermal grease with some AS5, or just leave it the way it is. The Heatsink covers the memory obviously, and it has something that looks like tape connecting it to the memory chips, probly adhesave (its samsung memory btw). It is screwed on as well obviously, so thats not the only thing holding it on, hehe. So should i put AS5 on there, or just leave it the way it is? thanx!

I did. Hence partly why my memory is at 1190. :sn:

was the heatsink still able to maintain contact to the memory after removing the tape????

I've been wondering about this (read as.. itching to do this) also.

Yeah, i would also like to know, as im itching to put my new card in, but it is a pain in the ASS to take out, because of the damn no-tools pci slots in my Xaser III. I have to take the whole aparatus out, then put it in, put the thing back in, then lock the card in, takes about 15 minutes to get everything good and straight and tight lol.

It may be a GT, but the stock cooler is almost identical. When you pull it off you will see an indent that was covered by the thermal pad. That indent is more than enough to allow proper contact with AS5.

The silver you see is blurry I know.... but that silver is the AS5 bleeding over the RAM chip, its not quite to the pins at the bottom, but its obviously making good contact.

1190 stable on RAM is quite impressive for a GT
