I had this posted in general hardware but perhaps its better here.

I really want to get linux back up and running. I haven't been able to use it since may because I do not have a hardware modem and right now im stuck with 56k.

I found this one on the internet and I think its one reference to mandrakes page. same part number. and supposedly modems with RS-232 configuration work with linux.

is it a good buy?

check out www.linmodems.org for a list of winmodems that will (will some help) work in Linux. eg, Intel Ambient HaM, one of which I own.

Ah Intel Ambient - yes i have /scratch *had* one of those - You can get drivers - and they do work - but you gett desconected a lot - slow transfers - etc etc... uggy buggy - dont get a reall winmodem - they are the source of the evilness from software modems - i just picked up a 56k hrdware modem (among a duron 900 for 50pound + mobo for 45) for a mere 8quid! you should get oen you'll be much more happy with the results

IF you have an ambient try intel.com
