View Full Version : Finding out my password for a D-Link router

I bought a D-link router and during the setup it asked me to type in a password. I typed in my usual password, and when the setup was done, the internet would not work through the router. I tried to go back to the router setup page (192.168.0.1) and it asks me for my username and password. I type it in and it always denies it. 404 error. And now I can't setup the router to make it actually work. Does anyone know how I can reset all this, or where D-link stores its password? I've looked all over the registry and can't find it anywhere. If I just reinstalled windows would this allow me to reset it, or is the password stored in the router?

password is stored on the router itself

oh also.. did you hit the reset button? (not sure if dlink has this, but all of my previous routers did)

Reset the router via the button on the bottom... then use the default login (I think it's "admin" for username and no password). I have one and have had to do it before. Then just go through the setup again.

does this double for linksys, cause I have a friend that bought a router from another friend and can't find the password, and the other guy doesn't remember?

Default passwords for routers are usually admin/no password, and admin/admin. Both of my routers, which are totally different brands, are admin/admin.

I know. I was curious if you could reset them back to default because the previous owners has obviously changed it, and now the router is useless to my buddy unless we can figure out a way to change it or default it back.

If the defaults are changed, you might as well just reset the routers NVRAM, by pressing and holding the reset button using a paperclip for 10 seconds.
