it's nice to finally have enough money to get an AMD chip but before i get one, can somebody tell me which steeping is the best for overclocking? also where do i look on the chip for the steeping? i've already got a new MoBo which is an ASUS A7V133 with raid and i've also gotten the Swiftech heatsink. i'm not sure what is the model of the heatsink but i know it's the biggest one which has to be screwed on the board. i want to atleast clock the chip to 1.55 - 1.6 GHz if possible. can anybody having the same chip or knows about it please advice me on this. i will be getting the chip in 2 days time. thank you in advance and i'll let your know the result once i get it to it's best. ;)

I think most or all of the 1.4s are of the AYHJA stepping, and the best of those is the 'AYHJAR'. Sounds like you have the Swiftech MC462, probably the best air cooler out there, so as long as you have cool case cooling you ought to be able to push that chip pretty far.
Below is the code as it appears on my chip - all chips ought to look similar, and I've underlined the bit that tell's you the stepping:
AMD Athlon
A1400AMS3C
AYHJA 0126RPNW
Y652753 0019
m d 1999 AMD
Also, the '0126' after the stepping tells you when the chip was made - in my case, week 26 of 2001.

Have a look at the Web page I made today. There you will see a table over my parameters for BIOS and how I cool the monster.
