View Full Version : P2B-S and max Celeron oc
HI
I am using my P2B-S with a Celeron 533A FCPGA @850 for about 2 years now without any Problems. Now I was looking around for a new cheap celeron update. I think the best oc can be done with the 66Mhz Celerons and as I see the fastest one is the 766 MHz.
So is the 766 Celeron the best for overclocking in my P2B-S at the moment or is there a Celeron which can be overclocked better?

Hi j0erch, wellcome to the Forum,
Cheking the Cpu database on the home page, well the best ways seems to be the Celeron2 600 & 700Mhz (generally OCable around 1Ghz) but you must buy a chip with the Stepping revision cC0 and not the cB0 coz less OCable then the others.
Another thing that you must check before you go, is the Voltage supported by your Mobo with the slotket, generally on this Mobo you can't set it under 1.8v, right for this Cellie coz they works @1.7v (standard), but if I remember well, they must works around 1.85v or more to gain a rock stable OC.
I hope it helps you ;)
thx for your answer
How can I be sure that the celeron has the cC0 stepping?
The 766 should also work when the 700 works !?!

To be sure, you must check the S-Spec code on the chip (the code written on) and take a look to this link http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec/icp.htm to indentify the right Stepping Revision.
Yes, the Cellie 766Mhz works on your Mobo, but for me the best OC's chance are from the 600 & 700Mhz.
Hi
are the latest 700 Celeron have a cC0 Stepping or more cB0 Stepping. Or is it a 50:50 chance to get one with cC0 ???

J0Erch Really it depends on how long the newest stepping has been out there. If it's new then there's a good chance that you will have to use an online vendor like www.azzo.com. They may work with you getting the stepping you want. There are several online parts houses that sell chips that are guaranteed to overclock at a given speed stablely. If the stepping has been out for some time then there is a good chance you might find it locally (Much easier in US than outside). The stepping is like a revision. The vendor is constantly improving his product and the lastest improvement will have a higher step. Example CBO is older than a CCO and therefore for overclocking purposes will not be as good. There is usually no difference in price. If there is keep looking you're being ripped off. I don't know the life of your Bios battery but if I were going to extend the use of a board thats been in use for two years I would flash with the latest bios version after installing a fresh battery.
:)
Now I have bought a Celeron 700 with cC0 Stepping. I replaced it with the 533A Celeron on my Slotket, but the pc won't start, so I raised the voltage from 1,8 step by step up to 2,1V. Nothing happend. Also I tried to run the 700 Celeron on 66 Mhz with various voltage with no good result.
So why doesn't it run on my PC?
Is it maybe the NoName Slotket?
Asus P2B-S rev. 1.02
2x256MB SDRAM INFINEON
NoName Slotket

Hi j0erch,
Have you tried with the latest Bios upgrade?
about the voltage, well you're going too high, if I remember well, your chip works at 1.7-1.75v and 1.85-1.9v is enough.

Don't just blame the chip. Recheck everything you did. Usually when things are working good and after doing something they don't well...........

Yes I have the latest final BIOS 1013. The Celeron is also not dead, because I have tested it in a ASUS CUV4X. But on the CUV4X i get on msg about a error in the CPU ID ,maybe because of the old BIOS. I haven'T tested it with a newer one yet, but it worked.
any more suggestions?
J0Erch
the celeron 700 is 100% OK
I have tested him in the CUV4X with the latest BIOS and even with up to 1,9 V without any error.
Is there maybe a problem with the slotket and the motherboard?

I was thinking to the slotket jumper settings for Cellie's or Pentium's, but you was just using a Celeron Coppermine 533Mhz so isn't this the prob, probably is better to test another slotket, preferibly an Asus, Msi or Abit.
